Oh about two and a half pounds

Raven 03-11-2009 08:56 AM

hmmmm

can't you just magnetize the spring?

Pete F. 03-11-2009 03:51 PM

Is it the spring that holds the thingamabob to the watchamacallit?

nightfighter 03-11-2009 04:04 PM

George, aka Numbskull, will know as soon as he looks at the pic.

Saltheart 03-11-2009 04:04 PM

Seriously , if you show a picture of the spring , someone may be able to tell you where to stick it (I suppose I could have worded that better :) ) . Your original post seems to indicate you have it but don't know where it goes , correct?

fishaholic18 03-11-2009 04:11 PM

No....I didn't loose anything....Just a pic to reference in case someone takes one apart...All the springs are in place in the pic..

Nice :rollem: , wish I'd seen this before I took my reel apart to check for you, Doaschbahg.

Ain't a Big Game, at least not like my Big Game 7000CL, different vintage.

Already put it back together :deadhorse: , maybe during Spring Reel Cleaning

Saltheart 03-11-2009 05:10 PM

Oh brother! I was just gonna pull mine apart same as John to see if I could see the missing spring for you. :) Glad I checked here again before doing it..

It reminds me of when I worked at Stop and Shop as a cashier when I was a teenager. It was a common thing to hold up an item with no price sticker on it and say for example "rice a roni" and anothe cashier would shout out the price (before bar coding). one time I held up a box and said "Mrs Pauls Fish Sticks" and one of the cashiers yelled out " sticks to what?" :)

I've seen it and there's some pics around one of these sites from JimmyZ I think .That spring is a PITA.I'll see if I can locate it.
Thanks to JimmyZ for hooking the pics up!I had mine pop out and he set me straight. The diagram they give you is useless.
Attachment 32571

OK just reread it and that was a reference for the poor soul who loses one.Oh well.Have another reference pic.The one that popped off for me was the little tiny figure 8 looking one off to the right.

I took it apart when it was new and didn't take the lever off first. It was a bad idea. You don't actually cast those big bastards do you ? I tried it and had a hard time slowing that spool at takeoff.I sold it to a guy on here and fixed my ABU record 60 HC .If I was fishing from a boat I would have held on to it.

Must be a Taiwanese or newer Abu, because my old Swedish ones look nothing like that on the inside. Cheap plastic pinion yoke

The older Swedish ones have no springs in the anti-reverse--just that little friction collar seen at the lower left (in older Abus it sits on a peg on the lower left as seen head on).

Yes, my 7000CLs are metal inside, different config (and different springs).

Anyone having troubles with the newer ones?

Wonder for those with both vintages if there is a noticeable differecen?

ive never really had springs fly out at me when i serviced my 7500... are they using the same components more or less on the newer abu's?

Adam_777 03-12-2009 04:17 PM

The one I was referring to was a 7000ICS Made in China.Nice reel but turned out to be too much reel for what I was doing.I like the spools smaller and easier to thumb. The spool felt like a lawnmower tire spinning under my thumb.

7000 and 7000i

With the newer 7000i reels, one has to take off the line out lever first, before one take off the side plate to get inside. This will eliminate the spring going into the wild blue yonder.
