What would you fish for........

......if striped bass disappeared?

stiff tip 03-13-2009 11:40 AM

e-z pickin bow legged woman or trout....

l.i.fish.in.vt 03-13-2009 11:40 AM

fresh air, solitude, exercise and relaxation, about the same as i do now.

The Dad Fisherman 03-13-2009 11:59 AM

It would be time to hit the freshwater......

you need to add pike/muskie to the mix....

Tagger 03-13-2009 12:10 PM

I'd go fresh water with very spotty saltwater fishing .

fishbones 03-13-2009 12:46 PM

I voted for seabass/tautog/fluke but I'd also fish for blues/bonito/albies. I just like being out on the water.

Raven 03-13-2009 12:54 PM

i'd raise catfish in my farm pond if need be
fish for trout
large mouth bass

but fresh water striped bass ......ain't going anywhere

so if tomorrow..all saltwater stripers disappeared
i would buy a place next to a freshwater striper lake as fast as possible..
they grow to the same size....

and there are no tides to think about

EarnedStripes44 03-13-2009 12:57 PM

I'd do the Bucketmouth Bass thing, freshwater is good fun.

When I go visit my family in the south, all I do is fish for cats. The grow really big in some of those big rivers.

Back Beach 03-13-2009 12:57 PM

Personally, I'd invest my retirement savings in plug making tools and AYC. Once proficient in the art of plugmaking, I'd stand flailing away at the water's edge for hours on end with my many creations. I'd bend lips, modify weights and paint schemes, then repeat. At the end of each session I'd lament the lack of fish and blame it on the eel fishermen. Then I'd stare at the sky, fart a few times, then go home and sleep........

....to be continued......

fishaholic18 03-13-2009 01:17 PM

tautog....for sure..

Sea Dangles 03-13-2009 01:54 PM

Probably just beachcomb with the dog in search of treasures. In my spare time I would take apart reels for shats and giggles.Maybe befriend other folks with similar interests and tell stories about the old days when fish were so stupid they would try to eat wood and plastic.

Rockport24 03-13-2009 02:00 PM

I would be freakin' devastaed, then I've prob move to RI because you guys got a lot more bluefish than we do up around our parts

Crafty Angler 03-13-2009 02:17 PM

Blackfish - or tautog to you mainlanders - also known as tittog to the Sand People to our east...:hihi:

Light tackle sight-fishing for blackfish is my favorite pursuit of the year - a 10#+ white chinner on light tackle is pretty sporty and will change your attitude about them forever.

To me they're the prime rib of the sea - only fresh grouper comes close and that's still in second place to Tautoga onitis in my opinion...:)

Besides, you really have to admire a fish tough enough to eat mussels and then s**t the shells...

That's an easy one -

Photos of large dead fish - lots of 'em...:)

I picked bluefish. In the 1980's there were long stretches of time where not a decent size bass was to be found. People caught bluefish while pretending to be fishing for stripers, but they didn't give up fishing as the methods for each can be very similar whether from boat or beach. You still have the same hobby, it's more a matter of landing more of one type fish than the other. The abundance of bluefish also gives you something to complain about which is an important part of most people's fishing.

When I worked as a fish packer for one summer, some of the regular afternoon customers were four charter boats that would offload the catch of the day from Nantucket shoals. Early June was the bass month but during July and August it was all bluefish.

eastendlu 03-13-2009 03:47 PM

It was not on the list but i would go to Argentina and fish golden dorado.

MAC 03-13-2009 04:03 PM

What ever tugs on the other end of the line. Be it freshwater or salt.

BassDawg 03-13-2009 04:12 PM

where's the sharkin' option??

although i heard that toggin' is
good clean funn and better eatin'

than our beloved stripers,,,,,,,,,,,

luds 03-13-2009 04:19 PM

I'd be fishing for someone to sell all my plugs to. :err:

BFT'S

capecodkid 03-13-2009 09:40 PM

BFT's and funny fish. Once the funny's show up thats all I fish for until October anyway.

Pete F. 03-13-2009 09:50 PM

I probably would'nt fish any less and not drive as far. There are lots of fish around here and usually I can find a place that has no one fishing in it. I'd still fish after dark that's when I catch the biggest browns.

macojoe 03-14-2009 12:59 AM

I don't do all that much bass fishing any way, They are ok but if i eat one a year thats fine for me!
Fluke is to me one of the best eating fish in the water! And nice and relaxing to do, So I voted for the fluke, sea bass, sucp, they all good eating and you can get some nice size at the right time of the year for each.

I eat what I catch, so thats what I target.

BMEUPSCOTTY 03-14-2009 04:41 AM

Get a yak (and maybe a quabbin boat) and chase smallmouth.

MikeToole 03-14-2009 09:27 AM

I would do what I did last time. Fish more for bottom fish and blues, but over all fish less.

Grapenuts 03-14-2009 12:22 PM

"no bass"

sell the big boat

fluke in the tin boat

freshwater as always

go back to jumping out of bushes naked in front of little girls

work on the house even more

more trips to DQ.

go hunt the dune rump rangers in pt. with the paint ball gun.lead free of corse.

basswipe 03-14-2009 02:00 PM

None of the above.

I'd move south and target Redfish and Snook.
