55 gallon homemade livewell
 

Has anybody ever made one? I was going to make one but looking for suggestions before I start buying stuff to make it. Would love a set of plans if anybody has them.

Here is a final shot of the unit. I tried a couple of stones from Petco. They looked great, big pancake disks, heavy, etc. They ended up s#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&g and the ones that came with the Power Bubbles were much better. I also bought a car charger extension, cut it half, put the male on the aerator and the female on the clips that came with aerator. Now I can do cigarette lighter or direct to a battery.

I'm not sure if thats quite what i'm looking for. I'm going to use it on my boat, not for transporting in the car. I'm going to need a pretty strong pump to keep it going. I like the idea for the top though, that is pretty well thought out. I will take that into consideration when I begin making it.

You can easily do this with some pvc pipe and a little planning..A 3/4" pvc pipe down the back of the boat and just below the hull cut on a angle so it catches water will fill a 55 gallon tank in no time.Put a inline valve in it.Pump the water in on the bottom of the tank with a overflow out the top.This is better to exchange the water.You'll need a check valve for this.In order to keep the water in the tank..If you can't find one pump the water in on the top.A 90 degree fitting inside the tank makes the water go round in circles this will help the bait.It adds current and makes them work to swim in circles instead of banging around in there.It's a simple system that exchanges water when the boat moves.If you plan on stopping to fish for long periods of time you will need some motorized help to airate the water.I would not use the entire drum.Filled with water 55 gallons goes over 400 lbs.2/3's of that or roughly 35 gallons is a better size..You can make it a little taller for room just don't put the filler tube up to the top.It will spill when you get under way.You can get creative with hose fittings that make it easy to disconect the setup when not in use.You can also use this as a saltwater wash down when under way.Most of the marine stores will have thru hull fittings that you can use for the tank.Use 5200 to seal them off.Your making something out of stuff for which it is not intended.It helps to start with a game plan of parts.You have to be sure all the fittings will go together..You should probably start with a hose fitting and make it all work fom there..
