I have a Buck-Tale..
One time fishing in Montauk I was getting em pretty good with a jig. I was outfishing the guy next to me badly. He asked me what I was using... I told him Supreme Skills.. I ran into this guy who I did not know this winter. He reminded me of this story..I had forgotten all about it.He was a good sport and said He got a kick out of it. |

thats wicked funny NIB
but i have to pose the question.... to you or anyone "chime in "
i can see the logic of keeping SPOTS private info close to your vest but why is the SECRECY necessary for what bait / plug / jig your using....? or is that a "do your own homework too " kind of deal  please explain that to me.... it can't be for a lack of fish or is it? |

We where using the same thing basically.I may have utilized a different trailer.I often switch off of pork rinds to some sort of rubber to give me more lift..With more lift I can use a heavier jig.Which in turn I can cast further and fish it longer or slower...I think it was that and simple location..Even though we where only a few feet apart. The angle in which I made my presentation in relative terms to the structure was better than his.. Supreme Skills keeps him guessing.. |
fish with a friend i'll be right next to him and try to duplicate what he's doing using the same bucktails and he has the supreme fishing down pat.i watch in amazement as he catches fish after fish.what it boils down to is his skills are alot better than mine.

as you can see i am fine tuning my thought process and taking advantage of the OFF season to pose questions to sharpies.
I have freshwater down to a science and RARELY get skunked but with current ,tides ,and countless other SALTWATER variables i find the learning curve to be much steeper thanks for splainiation :btu: |

I asked J.Powers why he fishes in a crowd of people. He said he likes to pull fish out in front of them..He does it too.. I like to think I am pretty good with a jig.I have only fished with a few people who I would say are better than me no question.. JP is one of them.. |

You have to be one with the jig, sometimes it's just not feeling weight is the time to strike. Think of it drifting along, a little slower than the current and a fish is sitting in an eddy in the current and just pops up with it's mouth open. It's similar to drifting nymphs when you are trout fishing.

Maybe it's something along the lines of what "type" of bucktail jig.
I used to use the "el cheapo" shad head style, and moved on to the bullet head style (a little less resistance and a sturdier hook). |

new jack...
:point: i thought you might talk about fishing with JIGS
"your way".... if you want to that is... |
the NIB's post about fishing w bucktails is right on the money. some guys like to jig with no action on the jig, letting it roll on the bottom. Others look like their doing the hokey pokey.
i let the fish tell me how they want to eat a jig. sometimes its dead sticking and sometimes i swim the the jig. sometimes a dead drift with a few quick twitches of th rod will trigger a strike( think suddenly frightened lobster). the only way to find out whats works best for you is to get out there and lose some lead. |
