Drift Sock ?
 

I bought a drift sock to slow down my boat so I can troll some tubes . I have a Suzuki 60 hp four stroke on my 17 ft whaler, I cant get to go slower than 3 knots .The idle is to high , I was thinking of tiying the sock to the bow and let it drift under the boat , any sugg.?? appreciated ..Moosh

raise your motor up some , it'll slow you right down.

You dont mean out of the water , just a little bit

keep prop in the water, but the push will be up, not straight.

5 Gal. buckets off the stern will work, drill a few holes in each bottom before deploying them and you should be good to go.

I would try what fishsmith suggest first and if that doesn't slow you down enough the buckets will.

Why is the idle too high ?

I dont know I asked the tech when I brought in for service and he said they just run high , theres nothing you can do about it, I didnt buy it either but I guess "you cant get there from here"Moosh

moosh ...its ez. if u want to slow boat down ,buy drift sock. hook to bow cleat, and line through sock to stern cleat.this will slow trolling speed down . its ez to pull from water into boat before steaming to next location..

No problem with dragging the sock (you are talking about a drift anchor right?), I have done exactly that, but I tie to the spring line cleat. Just leave the line short enough so there is no way it can reach the screw. Keep in mind, you will lose some manuverability.

why wouldn't you bump in and out of gear? thats what we do and consistently keep 1 kt.

I need to really slow troll speed my 17' Whaler in the spring Lake O. fishery for inshore brown trout. Two 5 gallon buckets tied together with about 6' of rope. Drop the buckets off the bow, evenly, in each of the hull concaves (it's a "W" shaped hull). Loop the line on the bow cleat. Easy on-- easy off. No need to ruin a good bucket that can do double duty when not trolling by putting holes in it.
