OK Canal Guys I got a jig for you!! This thing is crazy!!
 

The Hammer'n Groove vertical jig is proving to be a very deadly weapon so far on Tuna ,Sea Bass, and Cod. I KNOW it will slay stripers when they get here.:musc: Save a pogie and yo-yo a Hammer'nGroove!:kewl:I will have them at the RISAA show for a special show price of $10.00.
I wanted to make a castable version of that lure... so I did. It weighs around 4 1/2 oz. They come in silver and gold ,hammered just like the heavier vertical jigs. I swam this lure and it is SICK!!!!:bounce: It casts10 miles and with a moderate to fast retrieve you can work it on top like a pencil popper!Walk the friggin' dog and everything! Go slower and it darts and wiggles and flashes.and slashes...I'm telling ya this thing is nuts! I will have these at the show for $8.00. Stop by and yak with me & Jeff for a while.;)

The one pictured here (with too much red reflection) is the casting /surf version at 4 1/2 oz. The larger models are 9oz and 7 oz. with the assist hooks on them.

Joe nice job putting out a smaller version for the casters. I'll be putting the heavier ones I got from you to good use in a week or two. I'll keep you posted on the results.

At $10 a pop, I see a lot of Canal guys passing on the opportunity to leave $50 (or more) worth of metal stuck to the bottom over the course of a tide ;)

joe thats what a chripple herrin or maga bait cost ,all colors .@ 3-4 oz . its hard to beat the price for the canal jigin.....

Mike, I think the 10 was for the heavy ones, the canal size will be 8, and ya that is a lot, but if they are that versatile and you don't have to drop them down on bottom where the snags are, it may be well worth the 8 bucks especially if you are the one slamming the fish.
Those Shimano butterfly jigs are 12 bucks and get bounced along the bottom.

Will they get down in a current? It seems by the description "with a moderate to fast retrieve you can work it on the top" it might not get down in current if you have any line tension to keep in touch with it. PJJ what do you think , can you get it down in a current thats almost always pretty fast?

I have not tried it in a fast current yet,I just got them back from the caster.I would think 4 1/2 oz would get down,but maybe not,this might be a terrible lure for the canal.

it looks like a great jig for the canal.. One suggestion joe, is to offer them non plated, plain hook for the canal guys to keep the cost down.. just a thought.

4.5 will get down in most spots, on most tides, with a quartering cast upcurrent.

Most Canal guys won't care about the finish--no matter how good the finish is, it's going to take a beating from rocks and mussel beds. The plainer, the better.

the grooves also look they they will be of great help getting it down deeper.

certainly any random shape would get down at 4.5 OZ but I was just asking based on the description if it has a tendency to plane up do to its shape. It reminds me of the Mega Bait jigs which in fact would get down and had the advantage of planing up on a fast retrieve to avoid the canal edge lip. I suppose the only way to know will be to fish some.

I agree canal jiggers couldn't care less about a fancy finish as the life expectancy of a jig is often measured in minutes there.

I'm not trying to bust anyones nuts , I think PJJ offeres some nice products :btu:, I am just curious about actual performance in a booking current. When its posted as a canal jig it invites some serious inquiries.

I got to check out Joe's new jig at the show today, and this thing looks pretty damn good. I think there's a little confusion though - Joe is saying that this is a metal that can be worked on top like a pencil. Different animal than what you would bounce off the bottom. Not something to donate to the canal snags, just a different type of surface lure. For Joe to be this psyched up, I trust he's onto something.
And with a wolverine split and an owner tail hook, I've got them something else in mind for them...

We'll give it a try when the Pogies show up in the Seekonk River, looks like it will do the trick..

Joe....THESE THINGS ARE SWEEEEEEET!!!! I swam them today and they are sick crazy!!! The slower the retrieve the lower they run...the faster the higher!!! I direct tied to a calstar 8'6" medium heavy and was using a Penn 575 with a 6:1 ratio...The same rig i used out west to toss the west coast irons..They swim way sweet! I also pitched them on the lami with the vs 250 attached to a fast clip and had it working the surface pencil popper style then i would switch it up and kind of "yo-yo" it by casting, quick retrieve to the surface.....shake the tip for a few cranks then sssssslow the retrieve down it would sink then, repeated it! I think that when its slapping the surface and you miss a strike and sssslow the speed down and get it swimming subsurface you had better be holding on!!!
I'm going to play with these somemore to work the "entire" water colum! i want to pin on a mogambo grub tail and see what that does. I think it will work more like the wobble head, but we'll see!:claps:
