Worm Hatch

What can you tell me about the worm hatch? Where to go? When? What gear to use?:pop:

The worm "hatch" is actually a mating swarm of the Nereis limbata (cinder worm). Look for dropping water from a pond or bay and fish quietly in the dark with a fly rod, new moons are best. The swarms come and go in their intensity year to year though. Go to the local tackle shops for the best flies and techniques.

Also the smallest pink sluggo works well on light tackle

I saw my first hatch 3 years ago on the cape in a small cove ,all these little worms were floating and spewing a white milky juice , didnt know what was going on till I asked my buddy a couple of days later .the schoolies were going crazy slurping them up . I had my fly rod but couldnt get a hit . It was something to witness...

small 3" black hackle teaser in front of anything that will deliver it.

Hit the worm hatch jackpot early spring one year on the cape with my 7 weight and small clousers and deceivers that I had tied. I was maybe 12 years old. It was a blast.
