Saw this on the Birdsall site. Good idea for people with high gunnels and short legs, like me. I might have the local fabricator make one up.

2" stainless with a bend in it probably a crossbar at the bottom (aka bolt)

Big shrink tubing would work well on the ends.

Foam cored fiberglass (carbon/kevlar? hee) would work nicely and be lighter.

Hey Ross if you take me out some morning for some pogie fishing I will make you one.:D I will have to see if we have any stock laying around though. If no stock it will probably be cheaper for you to buy it as we usually have to get 16' to 20' lengths, =$$$$$. Probably the same dia. as a rod holder, 1.5" dia., and a slot in the tube to go into the gunnel holder too. You forgot to mention old people need it too, not just short legged capt.'s:bl:

Excellent! You wanna come up this way, or maybe down there around 2nd weekend in June?

ProfessorM 04-26-2009 04:01 PM

up there , I have never been fishing up your way.

or you could just make it say, 18 feet or so and call it a gunnel mount outrigger

A hot chick getting on the boat? I have pretty short legs, but if she's onboard, I'll get a running start to clear the gap.
