Help please !
 

Spent HOURS cleaning my '90 Gulfstream with bleach and water and a product called Grease Lightning which worked very well. I also used Magic Erasers. Everything came out perfect and bleach white. I did the whole cockpit area including floor, baitwells, livewell , fishwell etc.... Well, that was 4 days ago when i finished and i just hopped in the boat( its in my yard at my new house) and there were stains ALL over everything in the cockpit from little red berry things that dropped over the past two days from a Red Maple tree that is above the boat. I tested one area with grease lightning and a magic eraser and they did NOT work at ALL. I think the berrys dropped and stained the area and then dried onto the surfaces. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove these stains??

Try Spray away ,You can find it at west marine, or any other boat supply store I dont know if it will work on the berry ,but it works everything that falls in my boat..Good Luck ..Moosh

soft scrub w/bleach

Second Soft Scrub with bleach. Then cut down that *%$&?! tree.

First thing to try is water. See if if will come off with a good soaking
That greased lightning is brutal on cushions and apolstry it will shrivel up and crack if you clean it with that.
Come down if you want I'll give you some different compounds to try if need be

Same thing happened to me the last 2 days. I'm assuming a mild bleach water combo will due the trick just haven't had a chance to try it. Looks like I'll have to move the boat back to the driveway and piss off my wife.

Thanks for all the responses. I am going to experiment with a few of those options. I have also talked to a friend who had this happen and he told me I can scrub all I want but after a few weeks out on the water, the sun will bleach the stains right away as they did to his boat. Most of these stains are on surfaces that I dont wax the the cockpit floor (diamond patterned), fish and bait well covers etcc.. and the non-skid surface on the gunnel. I NEVER use magic eraser on a smooth surface and the bleach and water I use is about 2oz of bleach to 32oz of water.

To avoid that in the future, use something to seal all of those microscopic pores that have opened up over time- if you can get h20 to bead up, you will have a somewhat stain resistant surface.

As Jon would say, your problem was washing it in the first place. :rtfm: :laughs:

I'd try bleach and water. If you still can't get them just keep it in the sun for a while and the stains will fade out.

Sell the boat.:doh:

Naaah, use bleach like capt Mike said. That cleans/kills everything bad.

On and off will bleach out those stains in seconds, just be careful not to breathe the fumes.
