Toyota Sequoia vs. Chevy Tahoe?
 

Hey,

This is only mildly fishing relevant. I'm looking at getting a truck/suv as an auxillury vehicle for towing the boat, doing home improvement stuff etc. I'm probably looking at an 04 or 05 for each of these. I know the Sequoia went up 42 hp and 1 mpg in 05. Can anyone comment on their experiences with either of these trucks? I know the new Sequoia is pretty amazing but I kinda want to get a used one because I won't be using it that much. The only off roading will be driving on sand/the beach so a 4x4 is a must but it doesn't have to be an off road beast. I'd like it to be reliable, tow well, haul some lumber/extraneous crap and so forth. I think they get about the same mileage so I'm not worried about that. Thanks!

how heavy is the boat?

They can both tow it fine I'm only going to use it for our 2000 lbs CC not the big boat, I'm more interested in the overall quality of the vehicle and any experiences you guys have had with either one. My guess is that they're both pretty solid trucks and there won't be a big difference.

I'm on my 2nd Sequoia and I love them for business and pleasure (towing is a breeze). I'm pulling a McKee Craft 196 CC and it trailers like it's not there behind the Sequoia. You can't beat the way they hold there value either, I traded in my 2002 with 150K+ miles on is and they gave me $17K trade in.

I have a 2006 Sequoia and tow my 18'CC (about 3200lbs total) with it. We also spend a good amount of the summer on the beach with it with the kids.

To date, we have had no problems with the truck, it runs very smooth, tows effortlessly. It is great on the beach, we go to Duxbury and don't air down, it does well.

I have 2 gripes with it, that are really not very big deals for me.

1. Tires wear out very quickly for some reason. I am not good at rotating, etc. so it is my fault too, but they wear quickly.

2. Brakes seem a bit undersized for a truck of this size. Again, not an issue if one is aware of it. Just need to begin the stopping a little earlier than one would think.

All in all a very nice truck.

I have a Tahoe and I like it, no issues at all!. A great truck and boy can you put some miles on these things and they just keep on going.
You can pull a house without the truck groaning but I'd recommend you find one with the trailer hauling pkg. and the 5.3 engine. I'd also suggest on the Tahoe you get one with the LT pkg.

Did you thing about a Chevy Suburban?
How about a Ford Expedition?

If you are buying second hand, get one that's GM Certified (bumper to bumper warranty for 12 mos or 12,000 miles) that you can take to any GM Dealer for warranty repairs and get a CARFAX to see the complete history. Not all certified warranties are the same.

Also check on who gets better gas mileage.

Some like Fords, some like Chevy's it's up to you which you will like-

DRIVE A couple first! It doesn't cost to look and test drive and then you can be happy afterwards

If everyone agreed on which is best we would have only one car manufacture. For as long as I can remember Ford and Chevy guys would debate how they had the better truck. Things have changed since then and we now have a few more players.

Who is better? Check the reviews, they are all good
Which last longer? They all last a long time.
Which one gets better gas mileage? Just about the same-it may vary slightly depending upon the engine size

As someone else stated, if you are buying preowned, make sure you get a "carfax" and do a test drive.

Today, assembly of any is vastly improved, so no matter what you decide on you will do fine.
