Water in Fuel
 

Ran my motor at home for about 10 minutes - all was good. Launched the boat in a lake for a 1 hour cruise to make sure it was sea worthy after sitting all winter. After about 3 minutes, my 2006 Verado started to shake and warning lights on gages indicated "water in fuel". I called my marina and they told me to empty the water/fuel separator and to drain the VST (vapor separator tank). Anybody ever done this before who can lend me some advice?? I hope to work on this before the weekend - I hear fish calling my name. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

You will want to do both what your marina told you and what missing link said and add EZORB. If you have a fuel filter with a bowl on the bottom and a valve, just drain the water into a cup. If you don't I would suggest getting one, or keeping an extra filter aboard at all times. I'm not sure about your boat but the access to the filters is usually pretty easy, maybe some bloody knuckles, but it's not a difficult job.

The water in fuel sensor is in the on engine fuel filter on the starboard side of the engine. The filter is red castle shaped and needs to greased with a silicone grease when reassembling to prevent it seizing from the ethanol.
The VST tank is on the rear of the engine, you will need to remove both the upper and lower engine covers and take off both side chaps to get to the drain.

read them and it talks about the fuel filter in those pages and you find all kinds of good stuff about your engine.

Thanks again for all of your help. I was expecting to find about 1/2 cup of water but I think I found about 1/2 gallon! I opened the drain on the VST and turned my ignition key without starting the engine. I kept draining gas until it was water free - probably 2-3 gallons of gas before each sampling was without water. Time to go fishing.
