Made the mistake of looking at the thermometer as I left the station 3:30am for a car fire, 3 deg., made things feel even colder. Instant ice!

Hey I was on the ice at 6:30 am but by noon it was a balmy 20!

redcrbbr 01-19-2003 02:27 PM

left the house at 5:30 am yesterday 4 degrees or 9 depending on which thermometer i looked at, got to the shop the phone was already ringing. on the road fixing frozen dead things till about 8:30. thawed out at the shop till 10:00 when the fun started!
when it gets really cold, regular diesel fuel will start to freeze, jell or start to make wax crystals. I had three trucks dead on the side of the road frozen and that was where i spent most of my day yesterday. So of course when the truck dies the first thing a driver must do is kill the batteries trying to start the truck. i managed to get one going, and had two towed to the shop and after a while of warming up they came to life. still had to drop the fuel and put in winter mix fuel to avoid the same problem. got home last night around 10:30 pm and my joints are still sore, but at least i am warm. next week ought to be an adventure:laughs:

My buddy has a big diesel F-350 p/u and in this weather he has to keep it plugged in to keep the engine/fuel warm. I never realized diesels were such a pain in the arse.
