First time on the boat for stripers this year. We went out, got macs in like 40 minutes, and fish for 3 hours without any fish. I was bummed. We decided to try one more place on the way in. We watched numerous stripers chasing our macs but no takers. I said to my buddy I think this mac is toast, I will reel him in and put another on and we can make one more pass. As I am reeling him in, 30 feet off of the back a huge swirl and slap. I left him there, put the reel in freespool and this fish came up from the bottom and inhaled the mac. I let it run for a 5 count and put the boots to her. Biggest fish caught on my boat so far. It sat on the deck for about 2 1/2 hrs, and when we got to Belsans it weighed 26lbs, and went 40". I have no doubt it was alot closer to 29-30 when I landed it, we could hardly lift her with one hand, and needed two to.

Thanks guys, I am very new to the boating game, and plan on fishing the boat alot this year. I broke down for the season non resident permit for the Weymouth ramp so I would force myself tp get out.
What was nice was fishing a crapload of crowded spots and not seeing 1 fish boated, then going elsewhere and catching. |
Nice fish! Now that you set the record on your boat with a nice 40" fish go get grand ma. The females are always bigger then the males.

Congrats Bill!
