dumb question - mooring

seems obvious, but thought I'd ask. I see lots of nice boats on moorings. How do they flush their motors?
I flush mine each trip. I may have the opportunity to keep my boat on a relatives mooring but feel it would ruin my motor if I didnt flush.
thoughts? :fishslap:

They don't.

whats the downstream impact of not flushing?

nightfighter 06-10-2009 02:13 PM

My 200 Yamaha is a 1993, been on a mooring, unflushed its entire life, except for annual winter and spring work. No ill effects. I use additive religiously and compression test this year was to new specs.

Possible salt buildup causing overheating.
Maybe some rot from electrolysis around the bolts (stainless vs aluminum = bad juju)

Change your zincs!

Or in NF's case, not a damn thing.

very interesting, thanks guys.
this mooring would be a little tougher for me to access my boat but would save me a TON of money. NF, what additive do you use?

nightfighter 06-10-2009 02:21 PM

Ringfree

Wiseazz..... Spray intakes and exhaust every spring and fall, helps prevent salt build up from eating the aluminum. Bolts get white grease. Zincs need to be inspected and changed out if necessary. All it takes is a nearby boat to have a bad ground, even if yours is right.

Jimmy, would you be mooring it it RI or MA? Not that it makes a difference with the motor, I'm just curious because you have a pretty long haul now to get to it.

Well, that was figuring spring and fall maintenance as a given. ;)

electrolysis is probably worse at the dock then at the mooring anyway...

Flushing is overrated..just pull it once in a while and give the rig a good douching.....
