Cell phone reception on the water
 

Which provider (other than a satellite phone) do you get the best reception on the water (Stellwagen Bank)
I've have about enough with Sprint/Nextel !!!

AT&T works on the bank for me.

verizon works but the phone is roaming and the battery dies quick on roam

I think the battery dies so much faster as your phone may switch from digital to analog during that time. Analog travels a lot farther, uses a lot more juice, while slowly frying your brain. Had this issue using my verizon cell phone from navy ships while off the coast. Verizon seemed to be the only one that could get a signal, but I would get a headache after using it for more than a few minutes.

I would check to make sure your phone is not transmitting analog out there, especially if its an older phone.

I think Niko has at and t, his always works on my boat. my verizon is very hit or miss out there

I can tell you Sprint/Nextel sucks.

at&t gives me consistent good reception

Mike (Ave Maria) just switched to at & t, I'll find out soon enough.
I'm thinking of shutting off my home phone, making that number a cell, and giving my wife's cell to my daughter/kids.
So I'm going to be looking at plan options as much as reception.
I have everything bundled with Verizon (phone, internet, tv) in my house, so I guess guess switching my verizon home phone to a cell would make the most sense, but I will see.
I just replaced/up graded my 2 sprint/nextel phones in may, so it's going to cost me $200 each phone to break the contract :crying:

My Dad has At&t and I have Verizon.

With the phones right next to each other, I can tell you for certain that At&t is better out there.

CB, I asked a verizon rep about this last year, as my brand new phone would die after a full charge when we'd drive out onto the beach.

Apparently, (and I think you're right on the ticket) when you're on the cusp between having service and being out of range, the phone boosts the power to the antenna in hopes of keeping a connection to the tower. This increase is even more so when you're talking on the phone.

I have sprint and looking to get rid of also!! But I will wait till Dec when the contract ends, been thinking ATT or Verzion buat after this ATT might be it,
