How Was Your June Fishing?

Had a productive trip to Cuttyhunk, personally and as a group!

But locally, it's been slow. Have some keepers, and a couple small, mostly from the boat. Have at least four early mornings swimming live bunker without so much as a chase.... A former writer for the area's Insider column told me he has yet to land a fish of any size from the surf this year! Here's hoping this weather pattern changes and some of the large fish decide to come in from the Bank.

Slingah 07-01-2009 09:28 PM

I have hardly fished....too much life on my plate right now..
when I have gone it's been fun....just not productive...
supah cows might have to wait till fall or next year...

The first week of June the NH surf fishing was really good but the last two weeks have been terrible. Good tides and surf but very few fish. Put in about 20-hours of slinging eels in the four nights after the new moon for six fish, one around 40" all the rest were about 26.

HookLine&Sinker 07-01-2009 09:58 PM

1 schoolie all yea in 7 trips to the canal:bsod:

BigFish 07-01-2009 09:59 PM

Fishing was good....catching???? Not so good!

June kind of sucked for me. I don't really like fishing in the rain. May was much better. I kind of commited myself to the south shore and learning new spots so far this year and it's been challenging.

Mike P 07-01-2009 11:16 PM

I can't remember a better one. I think I had a 10 day/night stretch where I landed at least one fish over 20#s. Mostly jigging at night, some on the morning plug tides

redcrbbr 07-02-2009 01:25 AM

pretty lame, future does look brighter, couldn't get much worse:uhuh:

JohnnyD 07-02-2009 02:26 AM

2 personal bests in weight this month and I've probably caught almost as many fish this May-June than I did throughout all of last year. Also been testing new theories that were developed over a glass (or bottle) of scotch with some friends this past winter with decent success.

It's been a good June for me.

Rob Rockcrawler 07-02-2009 03:23 AM

May was a lot better because i spent a lot more time on the water. June was consistent but not for large. HAd a lot going on this month so it kept me off the water more than i would like. July i will have a lot more time.

Clogston29 07-02-2009 04:58 AM

weather sucked, fishing sucked. the combination of those kept me from making the drive as much as i normally would, and probably just made things ever worse. hopefully things are on the rise now. found some fish tuesday night, going back tonight.

numbskull 07-02-2009 05:49 AM

From shore, June was character building................. a sad, pathetic, moping, mumbling, twitchy, cachexic type of character.

Boat was easy pickings on Middleground.........and mediocre or worse elsewhere.

JohnR 07-02-2009 05:59 AM

Fishing? June has SUCKED? Why? Because you have to at least GET OUT THE DOOR AND GO :wall:

I've been working LONG days, 6-7 days a week, and have wet a line ONCE since Cuttyhunk. Yet again %^%#%@ work has killed what could have been a decent June. :smash:

bloocrab 07-02-2009 06:42 AM

Juggling daddy duty, this weather and a new job has had me handcuffed this year, May was a better fish catching month for me, but this year as a whole has been a washout, especially June, pun intended.....{{LOL...while the thunder rolls as I type this.

PaulS 07-02-2009 06:48 AM

Did very well as I fished mostly rivers until last night. Herring and the stripers that were on them seemed to stay around a lot longer this year. A guy across the street from me who fishes ocean 100% of the time says its his best year ever. I hear him going out every morning around 4:00. He needs a new muffler.

June was a decent month for me. I was able to catch fish in the canal when others decided it was too windy and rainy to venture out. From the boat I would call it inconsistant at best. I wonder how many weeks comm. season will last in Mass this year. Some new techniques and tides at some of the old spots also managed to provide some quality fish for me.With the water temp still below normal I expect July will yield some serious cows for those who fish wisely.

Moses 07-02-2009 07:40 AM

SUCKED!

Agreed Chris. Waders, a couple dry layers and a good raincoat in the really snotty weather basically assures you the rock and rip of your choice at the ditch. I actually prefer it, less prying eyes, less congestion. Although I'd prefer it if it was blowing and raining out of the SW.

June started strong for me. had some nice fish the first week or so since then it has died right out.I have not been able to get out much lately ether. One or two trips a week in crappy surf don't help things.I think the first half of july will be better if the lighting stops!

.

We have something in common, I knew it...difference is I was sleeping the whole month.

Additionally, I'm sticking with the lack of sou'west wind excuse...

2na 07-02-2009 08:28 AM

killer

RIROCKHOUND 07-02-2009 08:32 AM

Slingah, I'm gonna be using that a lot I think - that was my June, too much to do, too few of me to get it done...

Well, Cap - I know the feeling...:hs:

I've gotta admit that the pix of all the cows from a lot of guys at S-B had me flummoxed -

On the other hand, after reading the feedback in this thread I don't feel quite as bad - sounds like Work and Responsibility done reared they ugly heads.

For me, I got fish in June, no wall-hangers but fish - and some fish is still better than no fish - they were pretty frickin' fussy at my usual haunts with lots of sand eels around but still picked away at 'em

Maybe we all oughta just go on a solidarity strike and demand less work and more quality time

At 60 I guess I oughta be happy to be able to go rock hopping at all...and I am

Took my brother in law out on the rocks for Surfcasting 101 while he was out here for his 50th - put him in waders stuck some Korkers on him and off we went....:laughs:

Took him to a sandy kiddie spot the 1st nite, then took him for The Long Walk the 2nd...(remember, John?)

In his thank you note to us he wrote:

1 - You're an adrenaline junkie
2 - You're n#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&' futs on the rocks in those conditions
3 - Maybe 60 is the new 30....:hihi:

Anyway, happy to be doing it, it's the Zen aspect for me anyway now - and the occasional fish is a real nice touch - big, small or in-between, don't matter but I'll take large if I can

Damn, I think I'm starting to sound like Clammer...

JoeBass 07-02-2009 08:47 AM

One Striper trip in southern Maine, mid June, that was a lot of fun, not too productive. Great largemouth fishing and really good trout fishing all June here in Vermont. Last Saturday landed 11 trout with my son. He even got the slam...brookie, brown and bo.

JohnR 07-02-2009 08:48 AM

Happy 60 Chuck :btu: - not sure when it was but I think recent

doc 07-02-2009 09:13 AM

not too bad...

Crafty Angler 07-02-2009 09:14 AM

Thanks, Cap...

It was a while ago....but it seems like it was only yesterday...:hihi:

Hey, BTW, I'm almost caught up on my must-do list...:rollem:...and I'm gonna start to work on my waaay overdue owe yas - ;) - so I'll be in touch

I'll PM ya and we can either hit the Blooberry Factory or take The Long Walk - whatever works best...:gu:

capecodkid 07-02-2009 09:23 AM

May was better. IMO

slow eddie 07-02-2009 09:36 AM
