How's the fishin'?

Sucks up here... Pogie boats wiped us out Thurs and Fri. They were working inside of the mooring field at high tide... Even when I've had live bunker, only get small fish to give occasional chase. Between 6 comms and myself, only one non market fish yesterday. Most brutal 4 weeks I've experienced.:fury:

The Dad Fisherman 07-13-2009 07:55 AM

Haven't had time to head out for more than and hour or so...

Freshwater has been good though.......got 2 LMB's over 5 lbs. and one over 4 lbs in the past week and a 1/2

JohnnyD 07-13-2009 09:00 AM

Been a Schoolie-fest for me. One fish over 20# in the last 2 weeks.

Sea Dangles 07-13-2009 09:01 AM

My last outing was outstanding......

bassballer 07-13-2009 09:02 AM

had a couple teen sized fish on fridday night, but had to work for them. I think thats the key right. Stick and move type fishing.

Crafty Angler 07-13-2009 09:40 AM

Far removed from your neck of the woods, Rosco, but locally a lot of smaller early-May type fish with a few bigger ones mixed in - at least it's encouraging to see schoolies around in numbers.

Size-wise, I would guess that the wetsuit set is doing a good bit better - and like bassballer said, ya gotta put in the time and effort and not get married to any one spot in particular

I'm just starting to slide into a more typical fishing schedule now after a busy June and it finally feels about right for this time of year

Besides, after 60 it gets to be like money and sex - almost anything counts...:laughs:

Back Beach 07-13-2009 09:53 AM

Fish to be had if you put in the effort. I've gotten into decent fish (20# plus)three out of my last four trips. Dropped my best fish of the year last week due to stupidity(tight drag and opened up a hook) but the good sized fish are at least available. I've hit them in both Mass and RI. No wetsuit needed either.

luds 07-13-2009 09:53 AM

I'm getting teen fish. I'm talking inches.

Bocephus 07-13-2009 10:08 AM

not much happening from what Ive seen

JohnR 07-13-2009 10:18 AM

Teen fish - talking pounds - in my rare going out on vacation (I worked half my vacation :wall: )

HESH2 07-13-2009 10:32 AM

micro blue fish

Rob Rockcrawler 07-13-2009 10:43 AM

Fished for about 20 hours saturday/sunday and managed one fish about 26". IT was looking up for a while then the tstorms rolled in.

american spirit 07-13-2009 12:23 PM

Just kiddin'...glad to hear you're hittin' 'em big

Rockfish9 07-13-2009 01:16 PM

There are some real nice fish around if you put in the time, both on the beach front and inside the river.. smaller stuff on the outside on sand eels..

Rockport24 07-13-2009 01:38 PM

there are fish in the rocks, mostly 20-30 inches, but they are there and fun enough for me. albeit I haven't been out since last week. Hearing reports of a few nice fish mixed in here and there. I'm talking from the yak here.

MrHunters 07-13-2009 02:38 PM

things have slowed dramatically for me. and the fish that i do catch are 15-24 inches

hmm wanna pm me where in ri? haha jk. fishing has slowed down here at my usual spots but there are some nice fish mixed in that are awfully picky. however it is time to start exploring.

BigFish 07-13-2009 03:06 PM

Just to clarify, there's enough fish out there to justify going out. Not blitz fishing, but getting a decent fish is in the cards if you get out there.

Sea Dangles 07-13-2009 07:08 PM

Dog Daze are here.
Fish over 30 last time out and action on both tides.
Tomorrow I'll hit RP in the tinny for the buffet.
New moon should provide great opportunities at a monster.
Good Luck,fish hard.

Sloooow Ross, especially in our area. I was also watching the boats working. :fury:

patpatriot 07-13-2009 11:11 PM

Been satisfied with blues for the past month and a half and 2 keeper size bass from shore. Yesturday went on the boat with my friend and caught my first 30+ # bass(31lbs.). I finally got to appretiate what catching a big striper is all about, goin again tommorow and want to catch larger.

good luck

Better today. Pogies were scattered but got them by 0530. Four mid 20# fish before work.

MikeToole 07-14-2009 05:55 PM

The surf fishing in NH has been just dismal since about the first week in June. I thought last year was bad but this has been much worse. 8-night, about 45 hours of fishing resulted in about a dozen fish. One big one and all the rest were in the 20" range. Usually this period of time is really good up here. Not sure what is up but this is the fifth year of declining fishing with this year being by far the worse. The only thing I've been getting plenty of is eels. Everytime I pull the trap there is half a dozen good ones.

The boat guys seem to be getting some livelining macks but even their numbers seem to be down.
