7-11-09 Jenny Lee's First Tuna
3 Attachment(s)
I was lucky to get an invite to go aboard the Jenney Lee Saturday and be on the rod for the boat's first tuna. Went out to the Southwest corner but after a couple hours of minimal activity we decided to make a move. Arrived in the new area and were greeted by whales and tons of bait. Put a couple rods out and had a fish on shortly after. Here's a couple pictures of the happy crew posing with the fish.

Sweet fish Terrance...Dan...lucky to be on the rod..Chuck the story is as good as the fish:kewl:

Thanks guys. I have learned so much from this board and others like it. We were trolling, slow - about 2-2.8 kts sog wiht live pogeys on 80# fluorocarbon. We were using those snaps that split in half and then basically lock the leader into them. When we got the tuna boatside, it was only hanging on by 1/2 of the hook as the snap swivel had come undone in the fight. I don't think we'll be using those again. Any other suggestions?
I am thinking wind on swivel to my line directly. No snap. any opinions? BTW - the harpoon is THE BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just don't try to lift the fish with it like a gaff. I might need replacements for my poon shaft. LOL. |

63"
|
Two things..
Since Buckman says we can bust stones a bit... they aren't very tall :D so the fish looks bigger two.. AT, you left out the poon shot... who darted it, blind willy McCoy :D:D:D:D great job gusy. how did the Romarine fare out there? |
Dan was the angler.
I was the Capt. Chuck was the gaffer and butcher. I threw the poon and it went right in just behind the gill plate. The second it his, the water just went red. somehow, I then tried to lift the fish with the poon shaft. doh!!!! I need a new poon shaft. don't try this at home. LOL. |
Congrats Terrance and crew.:buds:
|
nice fish - congrats
|
nice job.
Those escape proof snap swivels are anything but. Toss them in the bluefish drawer. |

Nice catch Terry, Dan & Chuck congrats
|
ATG I think they are the 550's. They are big strong and never open under any conditions. Confidnece in your terminal gear is huge.
|
No matter what snap, electrital tape snaps closed as added ins.
|
.....and Ronnie comes in with the best tip I've heard yet!!!!!!!!!
