Not sure where you are fishing but I would say no. 7' surf rod is on the small side for most everything but short distance schoolie fishing.
Really what you should do is tell us how / what kind of locations (beach/jetty/rock piles) you will be fishing and using what kind of lures. |

if your gonna be throwing plugs what weight are they....? is an important consideration... for heavier plugs --- you'll want say 20lb test on a reel designed to acomodate it... and a rod to match.... |
Get at least a 9 foot rod, I use a 10. and like Raven said, it depends on the size plugs your throwing. I was using a 10ft rated for 1-4 Oz, and thought it was pretty good. then I got a 10ft rated for 2-5, and it was a world of difference, as far as controlling the fish and heaving 3oz lures.

ic itll be mostly used for off jettys fishing or fort pheonix in fairhaven mass.. using jigs and that swimmer hard bait from yozuri F......... lmk

I would use at least an 8 footer, preferably a 9 for Jetty Fishing. I would recommend you see Mike at M&Ds in Wareham - a site sponsor - (being relatively close to you) for a Tica or Tsunami to keep things cheaper. A custom would run a lot more but for the price, you can't beat one of those. He could also recommend a reel.
