Hey, What Happened To All The Bluefish?
Or does anybody really care...
I dunno, it's not like I target them - unless I'm looking for 5# smokers - but the buggers have saved more than a few nights from a total skunk Can't say I like having them turn my eels into cigar butts, either but they seem to be real scarce Haven't caught one yet this season - and the only ones I've seen so far were probably 1 or 2 lbs flipping out of the water with BIG swirls all around them at a UDL Talk about a decline in numbers - couldn't find any for sharkbait on a long cruise last week in the lower bay and out on the reefs and humps - what gives, I wonder |
they met up with Clammer :)
Good observation Crafty. They have been very scarce - this week I had my first cigar butts in over a month. That is unheard of if you fish live eels in this neck of the woods. Even more of a puzzle since we've had loads of sandeels/bait around. Somebody/somewhere must have tons of bluefish because they also have our share.

Off to Bluefish Vegas to mate - which, given their freindly personalities, it's probably best if they do it in private.
East Passage was "run and gun" this morning. 5 to7# Blues everywhere. From Providence Point all the way to the little light house on Prudence. You have to chase them as they are up and down but the birds are all over them. They were taking anything small on top.
I haven't got one, in all the times I've been out this season so far.
Yes, that is odd.:) |
The bluefish would save me from skunkings at the canal but I've yet to even see one caught this season.
ive caught about 5 or 6, half were 4-5 pounders, the others were big, in the 12-14 lb range. But the weird thing was they werent all caught in one shot. 1 here, 1 there, not like in the past where i would catch 20 in an hour if I caught one.
My prayers to the Clammer gods was finally answered ;;
plenty of 3# to 5# around / but they can,t be everywhere because they are paying .70 pp in RI which means Ma. is much higher . >70 pp is high this time of year in RI . But I still won,t fish for them even with a F $%^&*() bounty on their head :wall: |
Haven't caught one this year as well. The wife had two last week while I got the skunk.
Only Blue I saw this year was at Shaws $5.99 a pound!! Very weird indeed?
the same over here. beaches always have some this time of the year. trying to put my grandson into them. not much.
seals ate em all
I take that back. Last night the toothy ones were all over the place. I mean all over.:uhuh:
Whomever told you that bluefish save you from getting skunked is a an absolute liar. In fact its actually a worse skunking when you only get blewfish :uhuh:

Aw geeze, I just realized that I fought over a dieing bluefish with a seagull. But I won...:uhuh: |
seems that all the fish are off shore down in my neck of the woods also jersey that is.could be all the sandeels of shore, dont really target them but its not like past years when they showed up at the end of april and didnot leave inshore till october.
