Great time in the surf

Just got back from 2 weeks in southern Maine. I fished every way...plugs, chunk, live lining...but I had the most fun on the fly rod.
I timed the tide so I was fishing the last 2 hours of outgoing on a tidal river. I'd hit it about 5 am. I used about a 4" clauser sand eel imitation. I'd wade out to where the breaking waves met the river and I'd let the fly slip under the wave with the current of the river. I caught 4 approx. 8-10 lb fish. What a blast. I'm used to catching 12 inch trout....so that was something.

Just saw this thread. Nice job on your first stripers on the fly. You'll have a tough time transitioning back to catching trout :grins:.

I agree with that good luck going back to trout.

i can only imagine 10 lbs on a fly. like you im used to 1.5 lb trout since i started on the fly 10 years ago. It is a goal off mine to learn to fly fish for striper for next year.

Imagine something about 10 pounds, built like a football, looks like a tuna, and is bound and determined to get to Portugal after you hook up (and after a couple of seconds you think its going to make it there). It's about that time.:jump1::soon:
