DUH
I left the house last night about 8 pm to do some shore fishing in RI. I put in a great early 70's Grateful Dead recording for the ride and took off. Life was good until I passed through Providence and noticed in my rear view mirror something was missing....it was my 150 qt cooler with all my gear in it. Seems in my haste to get down to the water I left the cooler sitting in the driveway right next to my vehicle and simply drove off..:wall: Needless to say I got home about 9pm and I am well rested this AM..

Done it. All packed up, everything in the truck, show up and notice wader boots are 25 miles away.
|
yup been there too. It's humbling, laugh it off. That is why we have day jobs.
|
So in other words after you saw your gear missing- you were "going down the road feeling bad" :uhuh:

at the River one Oct at Dawn when I first moved to Narragansett...showed up to birds working on a raw day. fished in my skivies :uhuh: |

Kidding aside - I did the samething last night (forgot my wading boots) but fortunatly I only live a 5 minute drive away from where I fish. I fear it will only get worse as I age. DZ |

I had "Promised Land" kicking as I pulled out of my driveway too. Go figure. Hopefully one of the Gansett regulars will chime in and tell me the wind was blowing too hard from the NE and I was better off staying home anyways... |

I swear I haven't touched the stuff since my last days at UMASS...that was 1994. This was just plain, unbridled stupidity. Actually the biggest travesty of my fishing career happened on the back side of the cape after I drove 2.5 hours to Truro. Got to the beach with my 12' tin boat in the back of my pickup, slid the boat off the back of my p/u without removing any of the heavy gear from the boat first(10 hp motor). When the boat slammed down onto the beach with all the weight in it, the skeg of the motor punched though the floor of the boat, leaving a 4" gash which required a long ride home for repairs. |
my personal favorite is to pack the truck up and remember everything then get to the marina and realize I've forgotten the keys to the boat

Try driving from VT to Pulaski, NY and looking for your waders:smash:
I was just glad I left them in my truck and not at home where my wife would be wondering what I was really doing:grins: |

Once went all the way to the boat ramp without the 6 gallon gas tank for the tin boat, 50 mile round trip, but didn't go back so only 25. I do lots of stupid, dumb, shi*&*%*t

when we moved 8 years ago, on the way home from work I would drive to the old house without even thinking about it till I got there
|
Mike, forgetting your gear is not a problem
Forgetting what the gear is used for is a problem Like Numby said, welcome to The Wonderful World of...of...dammit, give me a minute here, it'll come back to me....:hihi: |
Fortunately I have been pretty lucky about not forgetting stuff, although I still do ... what always shocks me is how often I forget where I am driving too ... :buds:
|
I have forgotten almost everything at one time or another but the worst was back when I drank. I have ski racks I use for my rods. Put a custom made Murat 10' S-Glass with a green 706 on the roof and drove away. One problem. Never closed the ski rack. Got to the beach and....no rod and reel. Someone scored big time.
|
drove to my spot 30 minute opened rear tail gate and saw that i left my rod back home.senior moment
|
Mike - for a while last night I couldn't find my spare light in order to find my boots. Was thinking they were in Vics truck or on the parking lot of a certain vessel. All the while reverse-kharma-smackin my forehead for giggling on your forgotten boots.

Ignore Flap. He fishes plastic. He'd need two potatoes.......... to put in his bra.
|
The only thing I forget lately is how to catch fish.. :smash:
|
Made the long trip to the canal one morning to only find that I forgot to put the front tire to my bike in the car......nothing like having to ride a wheelie the length of the canal bike path.....

That post made my day. Still laughing out loud while envisioning a fully decked out fisherman and bike riding a wheelie down the service road. |
Last summer I drove 45 minutes to my buddies house at 5 am for our weekly Sunday fishing trip. House was dark. Realized it was Saturday. Not kidding. Drove home went to bed.
