Beavertail - Sign says open, sunrise to sunset
Anyone know whether fisherman are allowed to fish there at night?

For a cool effect this weekend, go to Camp Cronin area towards PJ lighthouse and watch the waves. The boulders there will be like pebbles being dragged by the rocks and make an awesome sound. |
Beavertail has to be ONE of the
gnarliest of all spots to rockhop ~in certain areas there. when there is a strom a brewin',,,,,,,, FO GEDD AH 'bout it!! thankfully, i've walked away from her, only a handful of times, but a handful enuff to be able to post about it today!!! NO STRIPER/TROPHY/FISH OF A LIFETIME is worth my Life, or YOURS!! Jmstwn Harbor is usually quiet when The Tail is howling. try the surf from Pt Jude LH to the Ewall, as it can be good in/around a storm, just be careful and read the surf CAREFULLY before venturing out into it,,,,,,,,,,,,and always remember, there is NO SHAME in walking away. the wise surfcaster knows his limits and lives to land lahhhhhge for a Lifetime within them!! |
DEM has a policy that fishermen that are 'actively fishing' are allowed at all the state parks....just not the state beaches...until labor day.
|
only place in RI that I always feel uncomfortable on the rocks
|
Im driven on numerous occasions only to walk to edge of grass stare at the surf for about 2 min and walk right back to my car. The tail will play mind games with you.

Standing facing west on the Point and spending more time looking south.

I've noticed the same signage going up at all the beaches in North Kingstown.Makes me angry but we'll see in the fall if they give me a hard time.I was hoping for open access 24/7 for all parks for fisherman.Especially with the new license so close I'm starting to see more and more signs and they all scream less access and now they want $$ for the license.Welcome to part of my frustration for this year.I wish I could see the DEM policy on active fishing.I'd feel a bit more comfortable parking my car at some of the places sporting the new " closed after sunset " signs.Oh and the dropping of the plum point fishing pier and the Rocky point area is draggin it's feet. All these factors and a lack of large oily bait has been making it a rough year.

The 'Tail' is where I learned to surfcast, where I learned to respect big water and where I consistently film nice stripers...in fact, I filmed there during the infamous "Perfect Storm" and I can tell you there were some big rocks being tossed up on the shore that day. Hazard Ave was even more impressive. Be safe.

I walked away one night where it didn't look to bad on the approach, not a really rough sea. However, when you got close and started to navigate up and down the flatter areas, the water would roll in and keep rising and rising and rising...
After two times of that - outtie. I got the sense that this is what people mean when they use the term heave. Not sure though. |
