shock leader question....
Allright, we all understand that the theory of Shockleader strength, correct? 3 oz X 10 into pounds, you used a 30lb shock leader. But suppose you are casting a bomber which is like 7/8 oz? or you are casting a half oz bucktail? What do you do then?

Hey Patrick, don't know about the rest of the gang, but we use a 30lb test flourocarbon shock leader on our teaser rigs and have no problem at all throwing light lures, the average lures we throw are between 1/2 oz and 1 1/4 oz. They all seem to cast just fine, and its nice to have that little extra there if you happen to run into Bluefish, or you double up on a couple of 30 inch bass around structure. We only use 10 -12lb test as the main line. Baitcaster uses Berkley Big game and I use Fireline.

Depends on what's out there for fish and structure. Alot of places I'm fishing wouldn't work with 30# leader. I usually use 40 with no structure and 50 when there are a lot of rocks...

Most the areas I fish are are flat open with small rocks littered around. I use 20lb/8dia fireline. Right now I only have a 20 lb shockleader. I haven't needed anything more. My lures are all light weights. I also carry 30lb test but I haven't used it. I'm just using Mono right now. I have some 25lb fluoro around here somewhere, maybe I'll use that. It seems kind of silly that I would use a 20lb shockleader when my running test is also 20lbs but I don't like the feel of fireline on the cast and I don't like cutting fireline all that often.
