BLUEFISH PLUGs!!!

Hey guys, can any of you recommend me some best or popular bluefish lures such as plugs and poppers? For the boat and shore?

Jenn 02-05-2003 11:29 PM

Slipknot 02-05-2003 11:29 PM

Atom - striper swiper popper

Roberts - Ranger

Creek Chub - chrome popper

any swimming plug that can be retrieved rapidly like a Rappala or something.

Notaro 02-05-2003 11:29 PM

Orange kastmasters? I thought that you catch stripers, not blues?

Notaro 02-05-2003 11:30 PM

A fishing rod , ofcourse :)

First what weight plugs?
The atom striper swiper comes in a few sizes I believe.
The creek chub poppers are around 1-1/4 oz or so.
As far as flashy kastmasters go, there are many sizes up to 4 oz.

Use a 9' or 10', whatever you are comfortable with.

Any rod you use for stripers, is good enough for bluefish as long as it's not too whimpy.

A Batson 1087 or 1088 seems fine to me, anything like that.

Yes you catch them from shore but we choose to seek out bass instead. But in the heat of the summer, sometimes we will take what will give a tug on the line.

good luck

what we'll take!

My favorit is gags graber popper, singal hook on the rear. I hear table spoons work great.

Big Vern 02-06-2003 08:49 AM

I usually just throw the crappiest lure in my bag at them, but I have even gone so far as attaching a hook to michelob light can with a snap, and that had no problem fooling an eight pound blitzing blue. Robert's Rangers, red and white pencil poppers, and chrome creek chub poppers seem to work the best in my experience though.

Clammer 02-06-2003 09:08 AM

There are no bluefish lures, just other lures that the Bluefish get in the way of//////
ASk Scotch @@@@@@@@@@@@@@

They will bite anything with a hook on it. Use your crapy rusty stuff, the older the better.

Notaro 02-06-2003 10:33 AM

Slipknot, so I can choose any rod for lure casting?

Notaro 02-06-2003 10:34 AM

Oh, I see, John. So it means I must use a wire leader.

Notaro 02-06-2003 10:35 AM

bloodcrab, i have fished from back river and old fish pier. im at the possibility of the or toddler stage.

Notaro 02-06-2003 10:36 AM

thanks, don.

Notaro 02-06-2003 10:37 AM

okay, that's cool. i will use any kind of lures that is cast-able and able to move in the air fluidly.

Notaro 02-06-2003 10:45 AM

Okay, guys, if I were to use a bucktail jig for the blue fish? How do I rig it with a wire? Go to the store and but a wire and use the snap to attach a bucktail or rig it with a bucktail by using a labor working hand?

mikecc 02-06-2003 10:49 AM

Thats the way to get your post # up;)

mrmacey 02-06-2003 10:51 AM

thats the way to!!

bluefish when feeding will hit anything IMO. One night at dinner I was looking at the Prime-Rib bone on my plate...that night I
fashioned a hook, some feathers to it and the very next day it caught a fish. swam like a bunker spoon. Had it for several years and pulled it out after a few beers and the cooler was full of fish...

I was fishing the WICC tourney in CT a few years back. For about 3 minutes, until we drifted out of range, I watched a 6-8# blue making a constant & viscious attack on a floating Pepsi bottle - I still laugh thinking about it...
