You're the Volunteer Lighthouse Keeper at Rose Island when...

You pay a hefty sum to be the volunteer lighthouse keeper on Rose Island because you want to enjoy the scenic beauty of Rose Island, the sweeping view of Narragansett Bay and the solitude that one can only get on an uninhabited island...and then a 15 story high cruise ship with 6,000 people on board anchors next to you.

There goes the neighborhood.

Maybe someone on the Love Boat who is not having the best honeymoon will toss his bride over the cruise ship rail around 3:00 a.m. - that's always good for a laugh.

I was in the yak in Gansett when the ship left Saturday night. You could see the top of the boat BEHIND bevertail for at least the full length of the ship. It was nuts.

When I got married in 2000, someone gave us a wedding gift of staying for a weekend at that lighthouse. My plan at the time was to schedule our stay during the spring or fall run and hope the surf fishing was decent from the island, but we forgot about the gift until a couple years later and never ended up going. It wasn't really our thing, other than if the fishing had been good.

Anyone know if the fishing from shore there is any good?

That's funny, since we always see that happen to other guys and laugh about how they don't see the blitz happening right behind them...

Pretty good luck that night, bonito, bluefish and striper all on the troll for about an hour or so...
