Where's Chuck??? Derby '09

I’m back from the edge. Where’s Chuck, you ask? Passed out in his truck on Menemsha. Two days on three hours sleep finally got the best of me. Casey and Kacie I’m so happy you both landed albies on your last morning, way to go!!! This was my first Derby trip and my first real foray in the surf. To say it was a baptism by fire is an understatement, this is a hardcore group, but I learned more in those few days….well, mostly nights than I have in my last 10 years fishing. Standing on an offshore boulder with Rick my first night with wind, rain and breaking surf was not exactly what I expected but what a RUSH!! Rick landed a fish that night that put him on the board. Glad I was there to see it. And Rick, thanks for getting me off that damn boulder!!! I think the hook is definitely set in me and I’ll be back next year for sure, come high wind or rough water. I can’t thank Casey, Kacie, Steve, Paul, Warren, John, Jim and especially Rick enough for including me, sharing their vast knowledge and showing great patience with the new guy. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

Nice to meet you too Chuck. Best way is to jump right in. Are you going to buy a wetsuit?

Hey Chuck,

It's amazing how well you can get to know I guy standing together on a rock, 20 yds from shore, at 3am. Yeah, I guess I should have explained a little more about our fishing tactics, but you never asked:grins: We were a little concerned about you at first, but you really hung in there and hit it hard. It was fun catching those schoolies in the "aquarium". Hope friday worked out well for you and we will see you at the Holiday Bash.

Looks like the rock we never found?

Chuck, glad to hear you were sleeping in your truck. We were all a little worried. But once we put all the stories together we figured that was your truck that Rick and Paul saw. LOL... Glad you're hooked...

Looks right to me. No rocks in site. Need that surf to show em. Really cool pics. Wish I could get back out there one night.

We may be on to something, 9.63 and 11.44, on eels. This was a big surprise considering the rats that had been terrorizing our eels. Last hurrah tonite

Get off my rock! Congrats though.

What rock? I am testing a prototype extendable wading boot.

Chuck congrats on making it through your first real shore experience. I wish I could say it gets easier but I would be lying. :) Tons of fun guys!! Thanks again!!

Thanks guys, I havent stopped talking about the trip since I got home. Now I'm on my way up to Rangeley, ME., for Grouse and Woodcock. I'm hoping for better luck with the shotgun.

Think of me as you go by Portland. I'll be headed to The County Fri afternoon for a bird/moose hunt. Unfortunately for me I think my fishing is over for '09. :(
