Loading 7" redfins
Was going to load up some of the larger redfins I did it with mineral oil and want to change it to shot pellets. Does anyone out there know what the optimal weight of a loaded redfin is. If anyone out there has the answer in grams( I have a scale that my buddy the police officer grabed for me after its original owner a drug dealer had no use for it in prision) it would be very helpfull. lead makes the plug swim straight w/ less wiggle... stay w/ water or try a sent 15 cc work best
|
15cc for sand
and 10cc for rocks I would stick with water Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
Ive started loading them with BB's and I dont think I'll ever go back to water. 30 crossman airgun BB's. Give it a try.

My buddies have them loaded with #8 pellet shots. Devastating action in deeper water and into wind, and lots of fish with them.

1cc water = 1 gram
For the 10cc water equivalent, try 10 grams shot |

I did a few redfins for a friend. He did not like the idea of lead. On my scale 10cc of water is equal to 29 Daisy BB's I have been told that bomber's like 7cc. I used #9 bird shot in mine. The smaller diameter shot seems to slide around better, and make less noise than the .177 BB's. If you want I can try and come up with a volumetric measure for #9 shot. The loaded bombers with 7cc of shot out cast the redfins with 10cc. sean |
I LOVE this thread. Talk about a throwback! We were loading plugs 30 years ago and it's great to see the next generation following a proven winner!

How does someone get a hold of BB's or shot with no FID card?
|
Bob,
In Massachusetts you won't need an FID for BB's, At least no one asked me at Bass Pro shop. My dad reloaded when he was alive and I have a bunch of chilled lead shot. How close are you to cohasset? |
Not close at all, I probably won't be coming to the cape again this year

Bob, Kittery Trading Post or the Wal-mart in Seabrook

I messed around with loading the bombers in the early season for fast current fishing. I load the standard 16A or A-Salt with 10-12 Airgun BB's, and found them absolutely deadly. They have a slow sink which is exacly what I wanted.
Its too bad they no longer make the old sinking rebels, talk about a deadly fast current plug... If you really want to tinker with these things, try taking an A-Salt bomber and loading the middle chamber with 16 BB's. This greatly dampers the swimming action, and causes the plug to have a fast sink, HOWEVER, it gives the plug a really sweet zig-zag darting style swim. Awesome plug in high spring river flows. |
