Crazy night
So this poor guy walks out of the dark with a bright light towards me gilly and milo crying help. I couldn't figure out what he was saying at first but turns out he's mumbling 'hook eye' 'hook eye'. He was like crying in agony but not in a loud voice. As he gets closer we see him holding a big plug on his eyebrow. It was f*&^% horrible. When we shown the light we where thinking it was on the lid of his eye or in that area but turns out it was in the absulote worst place. The 5/0 treble had entered in the white just below his pupil about 2/3's of the hook was buried in his eye ball. We called 911 tried to calm him down and took care of his things. When EMS showed they too where speechless. We felt so freakin bad for that dude. He told us he drove a ways and had just started fishing. We knew that... as he headed out we got ready, then just as we started here he comes with hell on his face.

Thoughts and prayers are with him, hopefully the Dr's were able to save his eye.
|
Thats horrible Goose.....hope that guy will be ok. Hope he retains the eye as well as his vision. You just never know...things like that can happen. Kudos to you guys for helping out.
|
my worst nightmare and the biggest reason I don't fish at night. I ALWAYS wear glasses while fishing. Hope he's ok.
|
you guys did reel good. Thoughts and prayers for the guy.
|
That is terrible. Must have hurt like hell as I have gotten a lot of stuff in my eye at work over the years and it hurts like hell. What a shame. Did he say how he did it.
|
oh crap, I feel sick. Poor bastard. But for the grace of God....
|
I hope he is OK. Prayers for Him.

I really feel for this guy, that suck big time. The eye does heal pretty well, lets hope he makes a full recovery.
I fear trebles more than anything. I have been stuck badly a handful of times and it sucks. You have 9 lazer sharp pointed hooks (xtra strong) all withing a few inches of each other attached to a wild animal that you need to subdue by hand, often at night, often while in waist deep water or current, on slippery rock or bubble weed. It's a recipe for disaster.:smash: |
So sorry for this guy. Glad you guys could help him out.
|
hope they can save his vision but I really dont see how, this was a big-ass treble on a pencil popper and buried in the middle of his eye...worst %$%$%$%$ I have seen in my life...God bless the poor guy, I didnt even feel like fishing after that,I feel for him and dont even know him..poor f#$%%er.. and all his kept doing was giving us his phone # so he could thank us for the help and of course noone remembered it cause it was the last thing on our mind..Tony I,m glad you posted this cause I didnt really want to..GOD bless that poor guy
|
You guys should try to locate him or find out what hospital he went to. Find out how he is? He surely would like to thank you guys I am sure! I would want to if I were in his shoes?
|
I'm cringing just thinking about it. Hope he's alright.
|
I feel sick now...
|
Yea like larry said, you should try to track the guy down, I'm sure he would want to thank you for taking care of him and securing his belongings. Man that really sucks - eveyone be careful - it's only a fish.
|
How many times have each and every one of us been so lucky when retrieving a lure and it pops clear of the water and we all ducked as the lure goes flying bye........and all we said was wow???
Makes everyone think twice when you hear something like this happen...hope for the best and that there is no long term detriment to his sight. |
Wow that is messed up, Hope he does alright. at least he still has one good eye left
|
that is horrible
|
:eek::err::eek5:
YIKES that is awful I feel bad for him also be careful out there everyone |
Milo,
I have been so thankful since you called me that I missed out on some good fishing. I didn't even see it, and I can't get the thought out of my mind. So glad I wimped out!! What you guys did for that guy is priceless. Nice job. |
I hope he is okay,
I have had flies hit me in the face, never a lure. I've broken a contact lens after getting hit in the eye playing tennis not fund I need to wear glasses, I guess wearing glasses I avoid that accident happening to me. |
I can't imagine...
I knew a guy who had a duplex nail pop the head off and into his eye. His co-worker said that "goo" was coming out. The surgeons did some miraculas work and he made a complete recovery. I pray that this guy has the same good fortune. Geeze what a bad break.... |
I so hope this man makes a full recovery.
Talk about irony though, check this out.I have worn glasses my whole life.I have been surf fishing since 1986.I have, for years, cursed the night and the salt spray, rain, etc, for obscuring my vision when I think I need it most. So I finally got contacts, just for fishing.Today! Now I hear this story and I go back to many nights tugging on a plug.It lets loose and deflects off my glasses.I will still try the contacts but man, does this story have me thinking..... |
hope hes alright
|
I always wear work glasses when I flyfish at night. Maybe I should start doing that while plugging. Hopes he's OK.
|
I won't be forgetting that for a LONG time..... poor guy.
I've seen a pogy snagger rip an eye brow off once, but this was straight out of a Wes Craven movie. |

But I feel for that guy, don't know how many jigs, flies, plugs, etc. have bounced off my head and body over the years - feel for him. |
Gruesome injury. I hope he got a good doctor at the ER. Sometimes that's the difference between a recovery and a pirate patch. He's lucky there was someone around to help.

I hope he had a good enough ER doctor at whatever rinky dink hospital he ended up in to know that he shouldnt be touching it! hopefully he calmed/medicated the guy and stabilized it and did nothing else.... then got the guy to somewhere like Mass eye and ear where the experts could get it out and repair the damage. Then they can knock him out and operate on it. Usually they just pop the whole eyeball out of the socket (there is a bunch of slack in your optic nerve that connects it to your brain ya know) and just rest it on his cheek to work on it..... Any of you guys barfing yet? :yak5: Hopefully he did well. Nice job Milo Gilly for helping out the poor guy could have happened to any of us..... Rick was practically heaving telling me the story, and he wasnt even there! |
