About time.

The stigma placed on pot has prevented a lot of people from getting a relief from symptoms that aren't as well treated through other methods, or carry significant side effects.

Regulation and oversight will provide more effective solutions than raids and arrests.

Raven 10-19-2009 09:20 AM

not to mention TAXATION

the general public and the Govermnent has had their collective heads up their asses for far to long on this subject.....

not realizing that by keeping it unregulated they are throwing fuel into the fire ,,,,,and promoting the underground since they can only stop 1% of the cultivators, it makes more sense to regulate it than waste our tax dollars on a failed war on it.

they can continue to wage war on cocaine and heroine though....
that i agree with.

that is worth our tax dollar expenditures but pot prohibition is not
same as was for beer.

I have no problem with the people that really medically need it. I think it is hypocritical to say you need it for medicinal purposes so you can smoke when you really don't need it for medicinal purposes.

Definitely. Take a walk down any of the major Boardwalks in California and you see signs for doctors offices blatantly advertising that they do medical evaluations for "people that may benefit by the pharmacological properties of marijuana."

That's why I'm an advocate for regulation and oversight. Have people buy their pot from authorized growers, as opposed to the Mexican cartels that recent reports show are increasing to an overwhelming presence in the SouthWest.

ARE you kidding me? you think they (Mexican Cartels) only have an overwhelming presence in the Southwest.

you are incorrect. they are in every major city of the whole United States and also Canada where they have allot of competition of course same as northern California and Oregon.

And i agree with you JohnR wholeheartedly, but many medications designed for certain illnesses fall short of the mark
or the multiple negative side effects make them worse than the symptoms of the disease they are intended to help alleviate.

what i thought was hypocritical and why i started the thread was to emphasize how ridiculous it was for the States to say on the one hand....ok everything is fine...carry on...and then the next day the DEA would come along and arrest everyone.

I don't recall stating that the problem is only in the SW, but considering this news story is most applicable to California where the Medical Marijuana debate is mostly fought, stating the SW seems applicable.

Turn on the History Channel just about any day of the week and you can find a show about the massive increase of violence in the Southwest that has been a result of their *increased* presence.
Here's a story from Time about it:
Mexican Drug Cartels Find a Lucrative New Home in California State Parks - TIME

Being close to the Mexican boarder, the Southwest is a convenient location for their remote pot farms, trafficking and laundering operations. The Southwest is a focus point. Just like other gangs have their areas of focus or origination - hell, just like my company that competes for business nationwide, but has a focus in the Boston area. We have a presence in other areas, but not like the one we have locally.

Hey he accomplished something good.
What happens if you contract an illness from smoking to much dope and the doctor prescribes dope? Would you feel comforable with your Dr. if he smoked dope, for medicinal purposes of course, prior to prescribing your dope..... just asking

Aside from risks to the lungs (which are significantly less than from cigs), what are some illnesses you would contract from smoking dope?

it seemed like you implied it Johhny and if not ->my mistake...
my point being that prohibition has created a lucrative trade
through out the whole United States and Canada...
it appears we are on the same page...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
hey i know? lets ESTABLISH a tax stamp for it

and then never make one

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Buckman: there's no nicotine in pot.....
but it obviously has some Tar...

no one has died from an overdose like they have by the many thousands
on legal drugs like percasets selling for 20 bucks each
right now..........
in reality we have a more prevalent legal prescription drug problem
than an illegal drug problem in this country

Would you rather deal with a person who smoked too much dope or someone who drank a bottle of Tequila. Pretty easy choice isn't it!

The only reason pot is not legal is because the people who sell alchohol and tobacco spend Billions backing politicians who will keep it illegal.

Tax it and keep it away from kids just like the alchohol and tobacco.

Legalizing all drugs means their value will plumit and that will rip the heart out of crime and terrorist organizations around the world.

RIJIMMY 10-21-2009 11:12 AM

amen saltheart!

I have a friend who lives in San Francisco - she said there is pretty much an open-air pot market out there. It's laughably easy to get a medical marijuana card. Another five years and it will be the same everywhere except a few red states.

Truer words haven't been said on this topic. The Mexican Cartels are so strong mostly because of the massive amounts of drugs they send to the US - same goes for the Colombian Cartels, street gangs and most other areas of organized crime.

i doubt that Amsterdam is hurting for tourists. :grins:
===========================================
good ole SAN Francisco
remembering.....................
when i was 18,
i hitch hiked from San Jose where i was staying visiting with my oldest brother...to the west coast just to see it...

I had an absolutely fantastic time on the beaches swinging a thirty foot kelp shaft around and basically just enjoying the powerful ocean waves, the cliffs ...sights and sounds.

it started to get late... as i walked many miles thru Santa Cruz
heading back enjoying all the the scenery ...then a group of about one hundred Bikers passed me on the winding mountain Roads.. which was a definite rush.

I get into the area where the highways have signs back to
San Jose and several groups of vigilante citizens threatened me being that i was a lone hitch hiker as they searched for some bad guys by the hundreds in every conceivable vehicle all carrying weapons of various descriptions yelling and screaming.

it was very unusual and disturbing so much so that i had to call my brother to come get me because i literally feared for my life.

After that i took a Bus to San Diego and found it more mellow.:uhuh:
