Found this guest check in my Mother-in-laws papers.

12 people out on the town, 68 beers, 2 cognac, 13 hamburgers- $8.80 NO TAX!

Gasoline: 19 cents/gal
House: $6,300
Bread: 8 cents/loaf
Milk: 47 cents/gal
Postage Stamp: 3 cents
Stock Market: 144
Average Annual Salary: $1,500

Ya Karl, but I picked up on the NO TAX, and wondered who ordered the extra hamburger and 2 cognacs on top of the beer. :huh: :D

two cognacs.... hmm somebody had two hamburges as well...prolly one in the same :uhuh:...hungry...AND thirsty... and 4 dropped out in the last round of beer :huh:

No Tax... few years into the depression still... they hadn't come for their "bailout" yet....

The repeal of the Volstead Act, gave the feds a good boost in tax dollars...don't forget that.... that wasn't a speakeasy tab.. :D

considering this was how they drove back then, I don't think it mattered much...

crap....even back in the 70's most vehicles had a pint under the seat, and a case in the back seat!...

get pulled over...flashlight would shine all around the car.... you boys going home?...yep... OK... you there in the back seat...you better drive the rest of the way... Yes sir, thank you sir!

They would all meet at her Aunt Myrties house on weekends and walk
down 1/2 mile to Uncle John's Stand. Don't know if it was a speakeasy
but from pics i've seen, they sure knew how to have a good time. :hihi:

thinking back was married in the 60's,was blue collar worker worked alot of hrs and made little $$$$$$.but wife could go to store and get 5 bags of food including meat to feed family of 5 for a week.gas was like 3.2 gallons for $1.homes about $15,000.no real traffic and population smaller never got stopped driving after a few beers.now progress and all the toys we have you need big $$$$ to survive.so the $15k house is now $300k.cars cost more than my first home.so point is i am left thinking the times i grew up in you never had a problem finding work and taking care of your family,don't think you can say that today.
