Hunting the Elusive Whitetail

Wasn't a very good year for deer hunting in the area of Kingfield, Me. and the Sugarloaf area. We have been spoiled with years of good hunting, until the last couple of years with large accumulation of snow and a huge winter kill which had descimated the deer herd.

We hunt the first week and the third week of deer season. Out of six of us we managed to shoot a spike that weighed in at 135 lbs. The spike was shot on the first day of the season. My buddy was sitting down in a swamp texting, yes texting, when he heard a noise and looking up sees a deer about thirty yards away. A few of my buddies did see a couple of Does, I saw not even a tail and there were for the second year in a row no deer tags alloted.

Now that Mass. gunning season is upon us I wish you all the best of luck.
