Thanks Slip ...
Plugfest is NOT a place to come and sell plugs or buy them, so if that is your intention, please stay home. If you only come to try to ho plugs from guys for nothing, well, you better bring something to trade or forget about it, nobody should be pressured into giving away a work of art which is what these plugs pretty much are. If guys want to hand out plugs that is up to them. It's about commraderie and learning and is supposed to be fun.
Thanks Slip .... for keeping it like the old days .. I always liked the obsessive basement dweller feel of Plugfest . I feared it being morphed into something eles.. I'm glad you made a post defining it .. I'm not against free enterprise .. plenty of other places for that though . |

well said Mr Tagger....I wasn't part of the old days, but very much apprecieate the "basement dweller" mentality... My wife is going to join me this year.. just to see for herself that there are other fisherman/builders as dedicated ( she says insane) as I am .. I've told her she has no Idea.... |
Changing the rules abit?...in the begaining there were plugs to buy..I bought from habs..adam r....an a few others...also sold plugs..rods an parts.....you need to change the sentence saying "only sponsers of this site may sell" like mike cc-salty etc...folks want an need parts, kits, wood, molds, wire, cutting tips,jigs..etc. etc.

selling, rules, or no rules, (or as i been told, we don't need no stinking rules!)
up front in open, under table, or out in parking lot...(lots of trips to cars...) has been a part of it all along... last one I went to... 2-3 years ago... it was pretty wide open.. cash for all to see, with some...others like a "street deal" with the hand in pocket, ---> handshake/switch up... other guys hand in pocket. it is, what it is... you either see it... don't see it, don't wanna see/believe it, or make like ya don't see it... me.. I just give 'em away..... if there's gonna be rules...they gotta be clear and enforced, and applicaple to all... altho...board sponsors, get the go ahead, only makes sense..... BUT.... that is only my opinion...and not up to me....just my 2 cents...and as Eddie will tell you, that ain't worth chit. Anyways...Bruce is trying something here (Thanks Slip!)... it's his ballgame...let him run with it! :kewl: |

2. rules? I try to hold a few sensible guidelines. I wish I could express myself in words as eloquently as Numbskull does, but I'll try my best. Sponsors pay to sponsor the site, JohnR owns the site. Here is a quote from a thread reflecting on last years fest, you could have easily searched and found it before bringing the issue up all over again like we seem to do year after year. ------ Quote:
I remember the old days Steve also, we like to still keep things loose and enjoyable but we also can't step on toes. If there isn't supposed to be any plug selling, then I guess trading is the only way to go. make a deal with plugs for plugs, or plugs for parts or whatever works, have fun. We're trying to keep it from becoming a free-for-all. there are plenty of shows to go to to buy plugs over the winter, we only have one plugfest per year. All builders are welcome, especially newcomers. thanks guys , I try my best |
The shows that plugs can be purchased at are very expensive for the vendors/builders, I wouldn't be suprised if they cost $500 or more for the booth space alone (That would be the cost for renting the space for displaying their product...lets say 10'X10'=$50 per square foot for one day). This cost prohibits many of the small high quality basement type builders that have a limited amount of plugs that they can sell.
Last year was my first and I didn't know any plugs could be purchased (read there would be NO SELLING ALLOWED) but did really appreciate Mikecc being there. I am not saying that there should be alot of comercial plugs available but building supplies and maybe some of the small builders might be ok. I know if I could have bought some of the plugs I saw I would have. Also I am not real familiar with Plug Hoeing and I don't have enough confidence in my plugs to even think about it; and was saddened that I could not purchase some of the amazing plugs I saw and very much desired. |
Bring a camera this year :)
and bring some plugs, I'm sure you'll find offers to make trades. |
