Sharpening the tip on your duplicator
 

How do you guys do it? Do you guys do it? I tried it and when I move the cutter to the right (going clockwise) it cuts great, going left, not so great. I put it on the grinding wheel and sharpened it.

are you talking insert?, if so it needs to be a diamond wheel, which are expensive. You will also unfortunately break down the geometry of the tip and this will not cut as good as the original edge. It can take one sharpening then it is not really worth it. Now if you are talking HSS one then you should just follow the flat edge that is on there and maybe the pocket that is ground into it. You really don't need to be too aggressive grinding it.The edge is probably just dull so try a stone first before yo go to the grinding wheel. The insert cutters are made for just that reason extended life, being carbide, and takes the guess work out of sharpening tools as most people are really not very good at it and end up ruining the cutter. Not saying you are a hack you just need to keep practicing. It will come eventually or go carbide.

When I had my HSS tool in my dup I touched it up (while still mounted) with a diamond hone.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, i'm just a hack! I just put the insert back on the grinding wheel and touched it up. Its cutting much better now.
