I'm thinking bandsaw ....

I think Slips the only one I've ever seen make one of these ,,. I'm thinking jiggs and the bandsaw .. I want to run over to the beltsander but might run out of plug trying to make it even ...

go for it

you are "Bandsaw Ed" after all... have at it!

I did something similar on a freshwater plug using a drum sander in the drill press. Mark the center line on the top and place a line on the sides where you want the cut. Go slow and join the lines. Finish up by hand with sandpaper.

Eddy, I have the large musky Heddon Flaptail if you want to borrow and copy it. Nice plug. Here it is with a large conrad to give you an idea of its size. Hook hangers are pinned in by screws from each side.

no need to bandsaw, just scan it,print and cut and trace
you'll need the plug for getting the scoops right I did one a month ago |
I made one a while back.. even posted it up here,..along side the original..

Joe ,, Slip ,, Beltsander ? ,,, Thanks George ,, I'll take you up on that .. good game yesterday ,, aye Slip .. :uhuh:

what i did to make the face, was use spray adhesive on a piece of graf paper and glue it to the cheek, i then carefully cut out the cheek and glued that in turn to a piec of lexan to get my shape, I then transfered it to the plug, by carefully ( staying in the lines) I used a 1" drum sander on the drill press to remove the excess wood, I had made a "mask" from the original from modeling clay, once the mask fit the new plug I knew I was in the game... I had both a heddon repro and a jerry's flap tail repro at plugfest two years ago in my display case.....

Thanks Joe ... I did a search on your Flaptail plugs but got side tracked reading Steve's reply's and post for an hour .. wich I really enjoyed . thanks for the tips ... like the modeling clay .
