Striper Time Rerun

During a search on the Google..:hihi:... I found what appears to be a restored version of the old RKO short film Striper Time that was shown in theaters back in the pre-Wide World of Sports days

I know all or at least part of it has been posted before - but it's a good time of year for a little nostalgia and maybe a chance for some of you who haven't seen it before to take a look

Hmmm...Uncle Crafty is coming down with a severe case of fishing pox, methinks...:smokin:

glass rod ,,,2 guides and a tip .. Can't see the reverse lever (squidder) on the reel .. thinking jiggmaster.. I actually use to fish like that .. getting old ... great flick ,,,. like the added reel sounds and narrated fish weights .. Question is .... who's the angler ? ..

BigFish 01-01-2010 10:45 AM

The narrator is horrible with his size estimates!!! That last one is 45#s? More like 20!!:fishin: Love the old plugs!

Tagger,

Good eyes--I noted same two guides and a tip.
But I think conventional in those days were always
short of guides. In late seventies I gave a 10'
blank to a relative to build a conventional for me.
It came back with only three guides and about 7'
of rod before the first. I tried with no success to
get back into conventional casting with that rod before
I turned it into a spinner and took many big
Stripers with it with no problem. Are we over doing
guides on today rods?????

No .. today is better .. School of thought then was less guides ,less friction, better casting distance . That's what I use to think..(mono).. Truth is more guides ,,equall better loading of the blank,,more recovery of blank , more distance .. even with mono.. More guides makes a better fish fighting tool too ..
