Charity plug display - AUCTION
Remember this?
http://www.striped-bass.com/Stripert...your-help.html http://www.striped-bass.com/Stripert...up-display.jpg After a change in restaurant ownership (just after I put the damn thing up actually) I've got the plugs back in my possession and plan to auction them for charity as planned in 2006. Special thanks to Scott and Elaine who now operate the waterfront eatery as the Melville Grill (1 Lagoon Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871) in the Melville marina. Home While the restaurant is closed for the winter, I highly recommend you check it out come spring. It's a nice little out of the way joint run by two great people. That being said...a few questions: 1) What venue do you think would bring the most return for charity? Ebay has a large audience but high fees. SOL is attractive as it has high volume, but if there's enough interest we can do it here. I've even considered Plugfest as an option, although the audience would be limited. 2) For those who did donate, thanks again for your effort. The previous decision was to donate the proceeds to the MS Society, but considering that was 3+ years ago, I'm open to other ideas. While it's not a huge volume of plugs it is a great mix of commercial and local builders with some very high quality stuff. In particular there's the eelskin iridescent spoon tail needle Habs donated (and signed) and one of Mac's Pichney style slant nose swimmers that are quite special...along with many others. I've got to take some decent pictures, but I'd like to get this wrapped up by spring. Thoughts? Thanks, -spence |
Your largest return will be to break it up. Not lot of people have 500 or so to drop on a display. The 500 figure is assuming a return of approx $20 + or - per lure.
The return if individual would be much greater collectively I'd bet. I know I'd be bidding on a few. Just my .02 |
Definitely going to break it up, at least into small lots.

I say Hasbro (That charity the donations went to for the Habs tourney?) in John Habs and Steve Shirakas honor! We all miss them so much.:(
We all learned so much from them too!:uhuh: |

do them as singles .. it is more trouble , shipping etc ; but it will be a better return . derf |
Best you can do is singles epay ,,but the plug market isn't what it was . Every 10 plugs you sell epay absorbs 1 in fees ... I'd put a test plug on epay .

SOL might be your best bet, especially for charity. theres alot of traffic there.
you could also see if other sites and shops would advertise it as well. i think breaking it up would be best, as others have mentioned. |
not kosher to name that other site here.

I think raffles raise more $ than auctions
check with JohnR, I think he agrees, atleast that is what we have found. my 2 cents |

I think raffles do raise a lot. But it would be harder to keep track of with this many lures. I think Tagger has the right idea with eBay. |
Doesn't Ebay have a charity auction provision where they waive their fees?

I'll probably try to sync it with the start of the season to perhaps generate some more revenue. Target charity is still the MS Society as was agreed to initially, although now that there's (sadly) a Habs tourney and charity I was thinking perhaps that would be a more fitting recipient. Everything is in my possession and ready to go. MAC did offer a nice price to buy back his submission (the Pichney style swimmer) which I'm going to honor as I know nobody would object. I did look into Ebay's charity auctions and that looks to be the best method for selling with no overhead. Thanks for the reminder though. I know I've been very slow in getting this done! I need the kick in the ass. -spence |
