Helluva nice red - :kewl:

Between the size of the fish and the railing in the background it was a dead giveaway

Real fishy area, a friend of mine used to own a motel right on the beach in Melbourne, but that was many moons ago

niko 01-08-2010 07:06 AM

I'm afraid Joe's right, Bob - given his age, that was a little disrespectful...:no2:

In the future, it's MISTER Dumbass - and heavy on the 'mister', too...:rotf2:

Pt.JudeJoe 01-09-2010 10:00 AM

Some locals were castnetting mullet when I arrived that night, and their net was so full, three of them couldn't lift it up to the catwalk.I helped them haul it up,and they gave me some.
A real cool guy from NY told me to if I put a mullet head on the bottom, the odds were good for a bull red.The head wasn't on the bottom for more than 5 minutes before this monster tried to take it to Cuba.NYguys dad had a bridgenet, and helped land it.They laft after we landed it,so with no bridgenet,on the catwalk,I quit fishing.

Damn, Bob, I could've been 3 for 3 on that call - I figured mullet or maybe even a big select live shrimp meant for a big snook

The whole Indian River area is da place for big hog reds - if you get back, also try bait in that backwater that runs out through the inlet, same set-up as our breachways...:uhuh:

Big snook around there too but if the water isn't eat least 70, you'll never see 'em

Check out Florida Sportsman magazine - it's pretty good and covers the whole state spot by spot and it'll give you a leg up next time with more info

animal 01-09-2010 02:37 PM

Yeah,NYguy got a small one the night I got the Drum, and a big one the night before(snook, that is).

piemma 01-10-2010 10:13 AM

headed to FLA Wednesday and have a backcountry charter for tarpon and snook set for Jan 18 in the 10,000 Island area. I'll post pictures.

Love to have you along. My bride might complain a bit though. next time.

Sea Dangles 01-12-2010 09:05 AM

Jack fishing on topwater is also top notch in that inlet. Those things fight like crazy. Try throwing bucktails from the end of the jetty to about one o'clock,it won't even hit the bottom before the big red is on.I've seen sharks and giant jewfish taken out there too.A bomber swam around the pylons can produce snook that will get your heart beating too.Enjoy the inlet and then go to Captain Hirams and order some #3 painkillers.....good drink!

Good luck on the trip. Look forward to the pics. I leave for a week in Miami on Monday. Unfortunately, working all week and no time to fish.
