penn 320gti reel
I purchased a new Penn 320gti level wind reel with a Penn power stick for trolling tube and worm. My question is this. How do I know how much backing to put on the reel? I plan on fishing with 30lb. lead core line.

You are not going to be able to fit much backing at all with that reel and leadcore, it just doesn't have the line capacity. I would probably put 15'-20' of backing and stuff as much leadcore as she will hold. If I remember correctly when I was running that same setup I had enough leadcore to get me down about 15'.......

Check on the lead core it comes in 27 Lb ,36Lb dont think they make a 30 Lb. but if using the 36Lb no dacron under it.

I am debating on getting this reel for trolling instead of a wire line outfit. I recently read an article about trolling deep with braid instead of wire/leadcore. It was in last months SWS. It claimed braid cuts thru the water significantly better than mono and with a 3-4oz drail attached to the tube-n-worm or umbrella it can get down to the 25-30 ft range. This set up can be also used for chunking, eels, etc where wire cannot. It gives you a little more flexability. I have not used braid for trolling deep(just read about it) so if anyone has I'd like to hear the pros & cons.
