double bunny fly
I'm in a fly tying class here in vermont. The Classic Outfitters in Burlington runs it. Anyway, we were tying a "double bunny" last week. We were tying a smaller one for trout but the instructor noted that he ties larger ones for striped bass and does really well on them. It's basically 2 strips of rabbit skin and fur tied into a clauser style set up.
Has anyone tried these? |
:uhuh: tied as decievers and as clousers...Oh, also eels.
|
Yeah, killer

Yeah, they work OK, especially in smaller sizes, like baby bunker, etc. The disadvantage to double bunnies is that when you get into larger sizes, all that rabbit fur weighs a ton when it gets wet and it can be a real bear to cast, even with a 12wt. A zonker-style baitfish pattern will attract just as many strikes and is a lot easier to cast.

I didn't think of all that weight. makes sense. I do think I'll try to tie a couple of sand eels in the 5" range, trim the hair down.

Tie them for those monster fish[smallies love'm] you have in the Big lake right in your backyard.Try lake Iroquois for big bass too.Tie them in black,blk/brn,brn/ornge,prpl/blk,:uhuh:
