Raining and Pouring

Friday my wife had to go in for a operation for recurring melanoma on her calf and can't really walk for about 10 days. Later Friday my son falls in the school yard and wrenches his neck. Saturday, my son looks awful and won't eat and can't move his head. Off to Kent. They run tests - turns out he has whiplash and something else that is causing his white blood cells to be high. They do a battery of tests, including a spinal tap at 1:00 in the morning, which was awful for him. Tests come back negative for strep and meningitis, but positive for a blood infection. Transport to Hasbro. Two days on IV drip and my wife who can barely walk has to take care of herself while I'm away. To top it off we have a puppy who does not have me around to take out, so he pees on the rug in the bedroom which now stinks and now I have to steam clean it. Meanwhile, orders piled up and customers are restless....other than that though, it's been a good four days.

Man, I'm deeply sorry to hear that. It might have been a blessing that your son fell, since he had a blood infection and the pain in his neck motivated a trip to the ER - those can get very nasty very quickly.

Thoughts and Prayers to your family.

Thoughts and Prayers coming your way JOE

I now have a profound respect (not that I did not respect them before - just not to this degree) for the nurses at Hasbro. As sucky as RI is in so many ways - that hospital is godsend.

Best wishes for speedy recoveries for both your wife and son. And you're not kidding about Hasbro. Don't ever, under any circumstances go to Kent County for anything besides a couple of stitches or a sprained ankle.

best wishes Joe.....

Jeez Joe.I feel for you and your son.And of course your wife.

I had bacterial meningitis and know the pain of a (4) spinal tap(s).An agonizing portion of my life I wish could forget.

We'll keep you and yours in mind.

Backbeach Jake 02-02-2010 06:35 PM

That's pretty rough, Joe. I'll keep a good thought for you and yours.

I hope for a quick recovery for all. That is rough Joe, but I'm sure your family will get thru it and come out better afterwards.

Thanks for the wishes. They're all on the mend now...
FYI: Kent does not admit kids (no pediatric beds). Hasbro sends down a transport for any kid that needs to be admitted.

justplugit 02-03-2010 07:45 PM

That is great news about the recoveries, Joe.
Sorry you all had to go through it.

Swimmer 02-14-2010 11:59 AM

Sorry I am just reading this now, but I am glad everyone is doing better.
