BM Junior copy put to the test

I finished this one up about 1 week ago and decided to take my son out and test drive a bunch of plugs, including this one. It comes in about 6-12" below the surface although I couldn't get a real long cast(maybe it will get deeper on a longer cast) given the ice cover in my test pond.

Anyways, I snagged it on the ice well out from shore and had to break the line, thus losing the plug. This afternoon I took my son, 100' of 1/4" yellow rope and a square shovel out to the crime scene and....I got the sucker back.. Anyways, I hope I'm not taking too long with this, but the plug was fully intact, no waterlogging or damage done after sitting in the water for 4 days. It does have a bit of a marble swirl going on the epoxy, but otherwise fine and didn't gain any weight. I'll have one on display at plugfest this weekend, although I won't be there personally.

nice work. I tried to make some last week also. I screwed up the through drilling on the three I made. where did you the lips?

looks good to me
I like the swirl

LOL. Tell me there wasn't a wetsuit involved and that you weren't attached to the rope. Hope you had a freshwater license with you.

Rebend the lip to more of an angle if you want to run deeper.

why a square shovel?

I needed a certain flight trajectory to reach the open water...also, it was a short handle version so it didn't tumble during its flight...my son was giggling the whole time...should have brought a camera.

You mean bend the lower section at a more acute angle so it scoops more water? I already tried bending the eye up a bit and it helped a little. The lip is also a mid slot, so its presumably not going to get too deep anyways...next year I'll use top slot lips instead, but will try the bending technique first. The BM juniors have a mid slot and go down pretty good, 1-2' so that 's what I'm aiming for.

I'm putting a duplicate of this one in the general category at plugfest...take a look at the lip and hit me with any criticism pro or con once you look at it...Thanks for the tip.

Don't feel bad...some of my plugs have 2 or 3 repair dowels in them due to messed up drilling......:laugha: Hopefully I used enough glue to keep the dowels from popping out...I can't tell the repaired plugs from the good ones once they're primed and painted.. just hope you're not the recipient of one of them.

BB, Nice Jrs. I made quite a few BM Jrs. Thery have an 1/23oz slug in the belly with a 7 gram tailweight. Mid slot lip. Dive up to 4'. I used clear pine and they weigh w/o hooks 2.3oz. They sit in the water with the tail down slightly. I do agree with a hi slot you would probably go deeper. I do have some slow sinking Bm's with a hi slot. They dig deep and they weigh 3 + oz. Breachway specials.

With lips I always found, bend up go down, bend down go up.
