Hey tuna guys - Spanish Fly
I tivo Spanish Fly and there was an episode where he was in CC Bay casting to bluefin on spinning tackle. I know from pics that some of you guys do this type of fishing. I am absolotley dying to cast towards breaking tuna and cathing one of these fish. What time of year are they in CC Bay? Is there any strategy to it or is it purely find the bait/birds and the fish will be there?

I was out with my dad last October in the Bay and we saw a couple of Giants bust the surface. A couple of years ago, we saw lots of football size tuna out in the bay. I made a half hearted cast towards them with a popper, but there was no way I was gonna bring one to the boat with the gear I was using. I thought better of it since I didn't want to lose a nice plug. This year we're planning on bringing some beefier gear out and trying for them. You're more than welcome to come out when we go.

Spanish fly was in North Carolina, you should delete this post, no fish in our pond.
I don't fish the bay much, but I'd guess they're there most of the summer and thru Nov. Best thing I heard about tuna fishing is - they hit everything and they hit nothing. There's a good number of righty republican tuna fishermen here, so I'm sure you'll get lots of good info. If/when you hook up, say good-bye to bass fishing. |
Call me after June 1st Jim, I'll take you out there.

That was a cool episode. Looks like a day I was out there except they wouldn't take anything we had to offer.
