Howdy

I may show up a little more now that john has taken steps to protect people from the vast array of internet nasties!! Good move john now there can be no "guessing" as to who says what!!

On another note,Providence is as good if not better than the thames river in CT.I have fished both places and without a boat you may as well stay away from the thames!! The fish are "stacked" in deep water there and you can only reach them with a boat.

Providence however is easy to fish from shore and I have had 70+fish nights there in the winter! Most are small micro bass but there are alwayes a few better fish in the mix,December is good and january is even better....Small jigs are all you need and time of day makes no difference,You can catch fish there in a blizzard!! the power plant pushes out plenty of warm water to keep the fish there all winter.

The fish are there in catchable numbers right now! Steve told me today that dave is already slamming them there along with plenty of white perch.

The best thing about fishing providence is that the fish are concentrated in a relativly small area and, a boat is not needed at all,With the thames the fish could be in groton one day and 100miles upriver the next its just to vast and area to score at without a boat. When I did fish there from shore I concentrated in norwich harbor and fished mostly the east side near the "dump" with bucktails,It was never worth it.You would fish for 5 hours and be lucky to catch one bass and be doing fantastic if you added a hit to that.Providence is much better.Mr.Dave pickering (The schoolie king himself) caught 1000+bass in Prov.Between Dec and march all from shore last year.

I may fish there a handfull of times in the winter but, its not really my thing. If you absoulutly must have a tug of the line after 8 monthes of balls to the wall fishing then, It is the place to go.As for me I only have 4 monthes rest before starting up again and I need it!! Im looking forward to some family time!!! Have fun.....

Howdy #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&, Glad to hear about Providence. I may have to give that a shot in the near future. Yes it is important to get in some family time now that we all have a chance. Hope to hear more from you.

Hello #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&, interesting report on providence. You certainly got my attention, but I have a couple of questions. When you say more concentrated, do you mean near the warm water discharge at the power plant? Can you advise a street or location for a boat ramp that would put me in that general area? What's the best bet for lures, presentations and depth?

I will still hit the Thames, only because I'm anxious to meet a couple guys from the other fishing board I frequent, but Providence is obviously a lot closer. If it offers the same fishing opportunities, I would obviously prefer fishing closer to home.

Tight lines and enjoy your family and rest this winter.

Uh-huh, outflow was good later in the winter and I'm assuming it was earlier but I didn't fish it until late Feb - early March ( I forget exactly when). But at times the schools were found all around that area from the Hurricane Barrier and up river. As far as boating, alot of people kayak for schoolies in there...

You can get there from Eddy street of 95 and I think exit 3 off 195 and park at India? Street? Point?... Maybe Bill remembers the the street name....

When I say concentrated I mean inside the hurricane barrier yes, the fish are in the outflow coming from the electric plant but, they are also in the channell that runs past the hotclub. When the power plant is operating the outflow holds the most fish.

You dont need the power plant to be operating however to catch lots of school bass! The area inside the hurricane barrier is relativly shallow and stays just warm enough to keep the fish active. The fish tend to "school" up and make a circle around the whole area and, all of it can be fished by simply walking around the area and fishing different spots until you find the bite, once the bite quits try the next spot and keep bouncing back and forth.

I used to fish there with my boat and did well but, you dont need one.John is right kayaks are popular.Im not sure what the street name is but the place is easy to find and you can clearly see the power plant from route 95 . as long as you get to that area you will score,The place is very easy to figure out and you will see where the other fisherman are catching,The hotclub side has the best parking and the fishing is right there.

I like too fish there at night, just like the summer.Sunsett until well after dark you can catch fish. The only drawback to the place is that it is gross!! We have always called it "fishing in the toilet" you never know whats going to float past. There is nothing nice to look at.It is strickly for those who absoulutly cant let those bass rest!!!

John may be able to put up a map that shows the place and the street names,I have been there a million times and never read the street signs!! but, you can access it from eddy street or allens ave.

Hi #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& , glad to hear you didn't fall in! :)
I can't add anymore about the fishing. I think its been covered. The exit is the exit for the point Street Bridge and Inda point park. I have fished from the area near Tockwaton Road , the little park they just put in across fron Goff's , up along the side where the hotclub and fishfactory are. Another good place is all the way around the electric power plant to Colier Park. Colier park is closed at night though. Not only will you not be able to get in too late , if you go in early and don't leave , they lock you in. You can get out but its a hassle having to buzzz the police on a monitor and then they open the gate etc. Pain in the butt.I like that area though cause there are grates in the hurricane barrier through which the warm water from the outflow heads down the river. The fish sometimes hang out there just on the other side of the grates. There's also lots of room on the other side of the barrier and parking is not an issue. On a normal weekday you can park on the other shore of the river but on a weekend., about 10 thousand people take up all the parking to go to all the bars and restaurants around that side.

hi ,I guess #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& knows alot more about Narragansett electric winter bass than I do, but Ive never fished it nights// but as far as fishing it from a boat and the Corliss Park ramp is a pain there is a good free one just east of the plant off of route 195,its called Sweet Peas by the locals ,its right across from India Point Park, the only possile downside is leaving your truck at the ramp at night,if anyone wants to go day or night e/mail me Thanks
