Here's the completed lineup, a nice pichney troller sr, and a good example of what happens when you get up at 4 am to do tail wraps and your pliers slip...no stitches as I didn't feel like driving 30 minutes....just splattered a little system 3 on the gash and it healed right over...

Another inch and a half lower and it would have been a lot worse!

OLD GOAT 02-26-2010 10:52 AM

Who's that old guy in the picture?

No doubt about it.

You can never be too careful with regard to eye/face protection. In this one instance I was performing a seemingly "safe" procedure without my shield on and the next minute I was seeing stars.

The Dad Fisherman 02-26-2010 11:11 AM

Sweet looking pluggage......But how the hell do you hit yourself in the face doing tail wraps.......I've lost plenty of Knuckle meat....but the face

A week ago I actually skinned the bridge of my nose pretty good and should have learned then. I was pulling on the wire with a pair of channel lock pliers and they simply slipped off the end of the wire. Its a technique problem, no doubt.

Diggin Jiggin 02-26-2010 11:16 AM

I'll take a guess. round nose pliers in the loop and vice grips on the end of the wire trying to really pull the last part of the loop tight, and the vice grips slip.

ProfessorM 02-26-2010 11:21 AM

bet you didn't know this was a contact sport, hobby

You're close, I had an old drill bit in my vise to form the loop around and was pulling with the channel locks....the loop did come out perfect, though. :uhuh:

Anyways, for any of you who don't know me already, I'll be the guy at TFCTFN with the gash above his eye...please stop and say hello....

eastendlu 02-26-2010 12:14 PM

"Say hello to my little friend" and then he pulls out his channel locks:smash::smash::smash::smash::rotf2::rotf2:

eskimo 02-26-2010 01:50 PM

all too familiar with this. I've popped myself in the mouth twice due to the little fixture I use.

"First time is an accident, second time is...."

Don't let there be a third time.

By the way, nice stuff.

Apparently, someone needs to show you a safe way to do tail wraps on of these days.

Tagger 02-26-2010 04:36 PM

Hey Mike those little vice grip plyers are great .. you can lock on .. You should change your angle of attack though and not pull towards your face .. Wife must bust em on you for that ,, mine would ..

ProfessorM 02-26-2010 05:56 PM

I agree I'd be lost without my small vice grips, but even those slip off sometimes. I punched myself in the nose one day.

numbskull 02-26-2010 06:04 PM

Terrific stuff. Amazing, actually, for a guy just starting out. Now get ready to get ho'd.

Slipknot 02-26-2010 06:17 PM

Nice going :) you been busy
looks to me like you are partial to yellow:fishin:

I must be the only one who grabs the wire with my bare hands doing tailwraps, what's all this pliers and vise grip stuff:confused:

Sea Dangles 02-26-2010 06:18 PM

Where do you attatch the eel?

Backbeach Jake 02-26-2010 06:19 PM

I've seen you do that, Slip, then I tried it. No Go..

Slipknot 02-26-2010 06:28 PM

well Fred, it won't be long with arthritis creeping up, so someday I'll be using pliers too, along with a hearing aid to go with my glasses.:wall:

Nope...Thats why I don't punch myself in the face either. I just grab it and wrap it around a pair of Round nose pliers

Just got a good tail loop tutorial done by #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&...man did I have it all wrong, but the end result was still good.

Take a closer look at the pictures...you may notice there's one plug in there not made by me...see if you can pick it out.

numbskull 02-27-2010 07:10 AM

Big pink Hawg hunter style pencil looks fished and uncopied.

You shouldn't, however, be practicing your signature on the wall before you sign your work.

I do it similarly to salty, minor variations that work for me with what I have.
