ok web designers....
I have a question.
I just made a site for myself- I used Iweb on my macbook, simply because the program seemed easy to use and it was on there.. I needed a page on the site password protected, and threw the page into a html editor and added in some code I found on some mac site.. It works great, as long as you dont pay too much attention to where you start your password in the text box- for example, if you notice that there is a space before where the text starts, and hit back space, the password is rejected. Is there a way to fix this? heres the page- Wholesale- the password for now is weloveglass any ideas or should I stop worrying about this thanks :) |
Not a coder but a hacker: is there a space defined in your code? This used to drive me crazy when writing macros for Excel "that hidden space character"!
|
Yes there is. Reason being that when i created it with no space, and you clicked on the enter password box, it defaulted to the 2nd space... I figured, that was the lesser of 2 problems. I guess the question is how do i get that box to default to the first space when you click on it..

I googled this, maybe help?
HTML Forms and Input Looks like this is the coded line: <input type="password" /> |
just a comment
your glass work is truely Amazing to say the least...man oh man
i simply love the chandelier you made EBEN ....that came out sooo mint... at first sight it looked like big scallop shells in many colors looking at the scale bowls...tho... which i really like i couldn't get an idea of what size they were...:fishin: |
Just went and checked out your site,,,,, Those bowls are incredible,,,,,,,,
|
Thanks guys- Raven, I am going to go back and enter dimensions next to the descriptions. The Scale bowls are 8 to 10 inches wide...
PrBuzz- thanks for that link, but there isnt mention of password protection on that page. |

oh. :)
I'll give it a shot- gracias |
well.. I changend it to what was in the link.. removed the option for user name, and it is still the same space issue. I think i am going to let this glitch go... :)

what web server are you using?
apache? you can use a .htaccess file |

you'll have to find out if you are on a windows or linux server.
If you have backend access and it is linux it will be easy. Quick google search for .htaccess is better than me explaining it. Protecting private directories with APACHE's .htaccess and htpasswd authorization. hope that helps. |
i'm also guessing if you have a "control panel" the hosting provider has tools available to lock down directories.
|
good god what the heck are you guys talking about? :hihi:
i believe my host is windows based. I have a mac, so i couldnt upload directly to it.. long story, but i figured it out. Im going to ignore this minor glitch.. when someone contacts me for a password, i will tell them to click on the middle of the box... simple solution. thanks everyone for the help. |
man that would cause an itch for me.
use big words and you can sound smaaahhht  |

the cursor is already in the box by default. if you just type the password without clicking on anything it begins to fill in the character 1 position.
