Old Yeller tonight with the kids
friday night movie night feature of the week. I'll have the popcorn and the tissues......
|
Tommy Kirk was my best friend's cousin. My friend got one of the puppies you see at the end of that movie. That dog was a real character. Was hit by a train and lived. Died at about 20 years old. Jeff was the dog's name.
That's a real good movie to see with the kids, we saw it in the drive in when it came out. Dad kept rubbing his eyes. |
call me I;ll bring the dogs over

Truly is a great movie, lots of good lessons - dont judge something on its looks or pedigree - loyalty - courage - sometimes it very, very hard to do what is right |
Funny Story....
When I 1st signed on as Assistant Scoutmaster for the troop I'm involved in we wanted to see what the skill levels were for the scouts involved so we took them on what we called the "Shakedown Cruise" campout. Well, we are getting ready for breakfast and I'm talking to the cooks to see if they are all squared away for what they are cooking. Conversation went something like this... ASM: "So what are you guys making for Breakfast?" Cooks: "Scambled Eggs and Bacon" ASM: "Great, lets get going, we got a lot to do today" Matt (one of the Cooks): "I Got One Question" ASM: "What Matt" Matt: "How do you scramble an egg?" ASM (Add your own facial expression here): "You open 'em in a bowl, mix 'em up with a fork, put them in a pan and cook them" Matt: "OK, I got it" 10 minutes Later.......... Matt (Shouting across the campsite): "MR. MCGRATH!!!" ASM: "What Matt" Matt: "How do you open the Bacon?" ASM (Picture the Homer DOH!! expression): "Matt, Come here" "Did you ever see the movie Old Yeller?" Matt: "Yep" ASM: "There's a scene in Old Yeller where the mother calls over the 12 year old boy and Says "Go Get me something for Supper" The kid grabs his rifle, heads out, bags a deer, brings it back, cleans it and gives it to her for supper.......and you can't open the bacon" Matt: (Laughs)...then tears open the bacon. It was funny as hell at the time.....and whenever we go camping now he'll yell over to me, when he's cooking breakfast, and Shout "MR MCGRATH....and he shows me can open the bacon. |
that was a great story.
I also used the movie as a political lesson for my kids. Remember the lazy neighbor that came by to "help" since the Dad was away and mooched off them for dinner? I told my kids those people that mooch off the hard workign people are called "democrats". |
You're to Funny.......
