as you may have read in my other whine I am done with the new Krylon primer I have used for several years. It just isn't the same product anymore. So what are you using and why do you like it? I need to find a new primer and could use your help.:uhuh:

I'm going with Taggers advice and trying rusto flat. Haven't tried it over the spar sealer yet but will find out. I'm thinking it will be fine over plugs that are epoxy sealed.

Last time I went to pick up Rusto primer I couldn't find just a generic/all purpose primer. It was either 'Rusty metal' or 'metal' or some other crap.

Zspar marine undercoat. Brush it on.

when my krylon is gone, I will just use White Lacquer Primer from ML Campbell that I use on cabinets that can be painted with latex or oil over that primer, very compatible. I get it in a 5 gallon pail and it is thick so must be thinned well to spray.

cool Bruce. I am interested for sure and also thanks George as i remember you telling me that and I also heard from someone else saying use a flat white instead.

rustoleum white primer. it's all i have ever used. great stuff. super adhesion.

I use the Kilz in a spray can.

I use Rustoleum white sandable primer. Never use anything else.

Zinseer gold label oil base primer. Dip it and forget it!

I usually put the large tip and needle in my Badger and spray Bin thru it, this gives me the best finish.....if I feel lazy I'll spray the Bin in the spray can, but their nozzle reaaaaally puts out too much paint, gotta hold the plug at arm's length and waste a lot of paint.
I have not found a spraycan primer that would build up like the Bins does, I use 2 wet double coats and hang 'em for a couple of days, then sand off the gloss, and the extra build helps to keep me from sanding off the primer at corners and such.
Downside is having to clean the gun after priming :wall:

Yeh I know the Bin spray nozzle is mucho big. I substitute a nozzle of a spray paint can. Shoots nice. I don't remember what brand paint , it's been awhile since I sprayed primer.

Rustoleum flat. Never any problems.

Zinsser cover stain.... i spray i from a automotive type spray gun.. but it now is offered in spray can.. I hve used it and it works quite well...

Rusto... clean metal primer. You could paint a grease slick w/it.

If you have a day or so for dry time -DIP
BIN oil based primer /stain cover -mineral spirits [ 70/30,60/40] thin to your liking in tall jar . Dip and hang ,easy , fast gets inside as well

I use benjamin moore penetrating primer. Don't know if you can spray it? it's fairly thick.I brush it on. It's a alkyd base primer wouldn't know what to thin it with.

"penetrol" made by flood...u can can find it anywhere paint is sold.Marine/oil/laytex...do the search on the internet and see how many different things it does for paint on the good side of things.

Penetrol . Is that the additive you add to oil base paint to slow down the drying time?

no..it's to thin out any paint thats to thick to spray or to rid you of brush marks...makes paint flow on w/out destroying it...unlike thinning paint with reg. thinners.

I use zinsser BIN primer in the can. Cut with some denat'd alcohol to your thickness liking, dip and hang. Nice even coat every time. I think I usually do somewhere between 70-50% BIN and the rest alcohol.
