i just stocked my back yard. Now I can fish for trout off the deck.

i just finished bailing a good inch out of my plugbuilding area and it is still coming. Thank god my cellar is slanted to one side or the whole basement would have been wet. VB must be fishing in the stream that goes thru his basement.

I'd really like to say DITTO but not until the sun comes out.

About 5 years ago I did some work to stop nuisance water (wipe up easily with mop) and seems to have paid off as this is the biggest stress test yet.

Yes they filmed a river run through it in my basement.

living in a town that is a swamp is a big disadvantage. got to dig a hole threw the floor and put in a sump pump. Only happens when we get this type of constant deluge, once every 5 years it seems. I usually put extensions on the down spouts to help but forgot to .

We must have had 10" of rain in Shoe City .. Slept. 2 hrs. since,,since,, what day is it ? Both wifey and I bailed all night .. 2 pumps and 2 wet vacs managed to keep 3/4 of the cellar dry . It still coming in .. we fight it back ,, frickin exaughsting .

Six to eight more hours of rain.......

Us also. I have been in this house 37 years and this is the 5th or 6th time for water in the basement. Always, early Spring and always one of these gully washers.

I wet vaced and sump pumped from 5AM till 6PM yesterday. Finally said screw it. Broke out the Markers Mark and a cigar and sat in the basement and ran the wet vac while I caught a BUZZ:)

Just noticed a piece of roll roofing in the backyard that i know came off the dormer. Some glad i had R.W.Grace --ice&rain-- put on under the roll roofing. No leaks---yet---

They are saying on the weather ,, we got 3 months worth of rain in 3 days .. :err:

10" in the basement, gas furnace & gas hot water only on 8" blocks, water floated stacked rubbermaid storage containers and everything on top fell and is now in the water. Not a good day.

the ground is so saturated, the pressure of the water itself is now pushing the water thru the foundation where it meets the floor. I never in 22 years have had water like this :( always been dry unless I forgot to clean gutters or something.

I hope the fishing room isn't wet in the morning

we did over 100k in sales today. 18k just in the plumbing dept. 16k in hardware. OUT of most shop vacs, sump pumps, and sump pump accessories. 2 Guys almost went to blows right in the plumbing aisle tonight over a 1/3hp sump pump:smash:

In 1980 when I walked down the blocked off dirt road in 1980 my choice of first lots was next to the river. Half way down the street was the lot I did buy that is a good ten feet above and allready high river bank. So glad we did. TThe river is up over the bank but still several feet below the level of my cellar floor. I graded the lot to slope drastically away from the house. You guys with water have my sincerest simpathies.

Lot's of water but my finished basement is warm and dry.
Many New Englanders refuse to use gutters and control roof run off. If you don't have gutters you have to have perfect grading and most don't. (and even then I still prefer gutters) It is not that hard. Some sites are problems but in general pooling water around a foundation can be controlled. For the amount of damage it can cause I am amazed to see how many cheap out (that is what it is too) and don't grade properly or control water runoff. That said, this was an exceptional storm with lots of water on partially frozen turf. Some sites are just in a real bad spot and there is nothing you can do except pump, I would move if that is the case. If you have a river overflow issue..there is not much you can do. Again I would move come the dry season.

When I am not at home in the winter, I put a couple long lengths of PVC pipes on the gutter outflows and make sure the water does not come near the foundation and is heading away from the house down hill upon exit. cheap insurance.
