Reel Mainenance Question
I've always done my own reel maintenance, but with a new baby and long work hours this winter I'm short on time. So, for the first time I was planning on dropping them off at a local shop.
Guy quoted me a price of $8 for spinning and $10 for conventional for a full breakdown, cleaning and lube. Can folks who have paid for this service tell me if that's a good price or not? Thanks. |
Pretty darn good, considering how much work goes into it.
It all depends on what you're getting in return. On the spinner, is he gonna open up the body, degrease it, wash the parts, and then regrease it? Same with spool assembly? Check the drag washers? I always thought pulling apart a spinner was more work than the average conventional. There are a few conventionals that scare me enough to send them to the shop (Daiwa SloSH ). Everything else I do myself - b/c it only takes me 45 minutes to really clean it well. -WW |
That's a good price. You should know that he will probably charge you extra if any parts need replacing.
What place is that? |
Thats Dam Cheap!!
I would not clean them for that. Sign me up!! I just spent about 45min to an hour on each of my 18 reel's! Who is this mad man¿ And what are the details¿ What is he doping for that money¿ Macojoe |
That is cheep Most get 15-18 per reel.

Beware of the low bidder!!!
Check around for other prices. Know anyone who had their reels done by this guy? |
...ya better hope he doesn't just spray some Windex on those babies and hand em back to ya.....

The guy mentioned that any replacement parts are extra, so I'll have to chat with him again to make sure he's not going to charge me $100 for a new drag washer.
The place is Lunker's Bait & Tackle in Asland, MA. I just moved into the town so I don't know much about the place. It is mostly focused on fresh water fishing but they do have a reasonable selection of saltwater gear. Anyway, I'm thinking of giving it a shot with one reel and seeing how he does. I've got six total I need done. Thanks for the feedback. |
